| | Javelinas Dirtbath CD Javelinas Discography of CDs
Pay your dues, put in your heart and soul, and you’re gonna get good at it. Well, JAVELINAS RAGE at ROCK AND ROLL. With a 20yr history of making many records, record deals, touring regionally and nationally, starting their own record label, radioplay, and supporting some of rock and rolls icons, the four members of Javelinas within the last 3yrs have created one of the most formidable rock/Americana bands to hit the pavement…Once upon a time, in the early 2000's there was a 5pc Chicago rock/alt-country/hillbilly-swag band called the Flat Mean Tires. They had an interesting 2 year run before a firey implosion took effect. During that time, they supported acts such as Bobby Bare Jr., The Blasters, Front of Truck, John Langford and could be regularly caught at Chicago's Hideout, Beat Kitchen and House of Blues. After the mind-numbing implosion, two of the Flat Mean Tires found themselves crawling from the rubble, a bit scarred but still hungry for the power of rock music. Detroit native, singer/songwriter Chris McInnis & Singer/songwriter/rock guitarist Mark Grzelak along with the concrete-solid addition of midwestern rocker Dan Postlewait on the bass guitar and the Chitown via Boston route Chris Glynn on the drums, the group reformed under the moniker JAVELINAS in 2003. In the short year since the release of our debut disc, “Dirtbath” they've been blowing the doors off of the “up and coming” tag and have become quite a force growing steadily in the Midwest. Along with supporting the legendary Dick Dale on his two stops in Chicago in and playing opening game of the World Series in ’05, they’ve done some great festivals in Chicago & Midwest thru 2006, as well as rocking the legendary CBGB's in NYC just before it closed, played a VIP party for Rascal Flatts 2006 Chgo tour, Windy City Motorcycle Fest, Chgo '06, Wicker Park Fest, Chgo '06, Guinness Oyster Fest, the Midwest Music conference in Indianapolis, MEANY Fest NYC, and are continuing their club tour throughout our second record right into the festival season. (release date spring 2007)The SOUND: Well, take about 30% of the Americana-isms Chris McGinnis and blend them with some old-school rock in the vein of the Kinks, Iggy pop, Tom waits, Amboy Dukes, throw that in a blender with a little Dave Dudley (6 days on the road), some great personal tales of twenty sumpthin' Detroit livin' as well as other vivid subject matter pertaining to just livin'... Fill the air with infectious riffage & accentuated accents by the Javelinas power trio behind frontman McGinnis, and just hold on. You’re gonna get on a ride you haven’t got on in a while... then get right back in line for another…Oh yeah, and Danny plays a 1968 Fender precision bass. | | Lou Reed Perfect Day: Best Of,18 TRX CD (1997) (Import) Australia; Sweden
Dirtbath
$9.19 Lou Reed's calm, yet ominous song "Perfect Day" has been attracting attention since it first appeared on his Transformer album in 1972, particularly in the U.K., and particularly in the mid- '90s. In 1995, Duran Duran had a Top 40 British hit with it, and a version by Kirsty MacColl and Evan Dando also charted. Then, in 1996, the Reed recording was featured in the film Trainspotting, giving it a new lease on life. Someone at the U.K. branch of BMG Entertainment's discount-priced Camden division seems to have thought that was a good reason to assemble a new compilation of Reed's work from the company's vaults -- he recorded for the BMG labels RCA ...
| | Kenny Young and the Eggplants Toxic Swamp & Other Love Songs CD (2000)
Dirtbath
$13.65 Claiming to be from Brooklyn (but possibly from some other galaxy altogether), Kenny Young and the Eggplants are a not-easily-described semi-acoustic trio who perform songs about giant squirrels, super-powered frogs, scary bits of cheese, inebriated birds, and broken washing machines, among other important rock and roll concerns. Various attempts to define their music have been made, but perhaps the most entertaining quote comes from the New York Times, which said that the Eggplants “give eloquent voice to the multifaceted neuroses of prolonged adolescence.” In the U.K., the Sunday Herald said the Eggplants “mix the wit of Jonathan Richman with the sound of the Nico-era Velvets to create a surreal and satirical gumbo.” They have also been called a “deeply eccentric pop band” (The Guardian), and a “wonderful weird band” (The Scotsman). The Village Voice said, “The naivete Kenny wears on his sleeve is genuine - think of an East Village Brian Wilson, without the money but still tilted in his own wacked-out way.”Perhaps because no one can figure out exactly what the heck they are, the Eggplants get invited to play an intriguing variety of venues. In addition to their gigs at rock clubs and acoustic venues, the Eggplants have played for college audiences, for children, and at science-fiction conventions. They played at BB King’s Club on 42nd Street on an evening hosted by Dr. Demento, and they performed on the corner of 132nd Street and 5th Avenue in Harlem during the New York City Marathon. They have performed at elegant British venues like the Royal Festival Hall in London and the Burton Taylor Theatre in Oxford, and at cherished dives like CBGB (NYC), The 100 Club (London), and Bannerman’s and The Venue (Edinburgh). The Eggplants frequently stray from their New York vegetable patch to the UK, where there is an apparent need for more songs about 6 foot squirrels. Their tours have included several extended runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and numerous live BBC radio sessions. They have played in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford, Chester, York, Falkirk, East Kilbride, and Bristol, but no matter what the destination, they always seem to get stuck in traffic somewhere around ...
