My Romanceis a great collection of romantic music celebrating those unforgettable moments. Body and Soul, Someone To Watch Over Me, The Nearness Of You, Beautiful Love, My Romance. All of these songs sending a message of Love and Hope. This record is similar to Urban Standards and Urban Standards Vol. II because all the arrangements combine Jazz standards with contemporary grooves and flying guitar runs. This time around I added more orchestral elements such as Cello, Flugelhorn, Flutes and Strings all played with my guitar synthesizer. In addition I am introducing my new handmade classical guitar by German Vazquez Rubio. Another unique element to the record is the addition of the Mini Moog. During a recent trip to Europe, I decided to bring one back with me and found it fit perfectly with the sound of the new record. I also wanted to insure the best possible sound quality so I had the record mastered by Evren Goknar at Capitol Mastering. And as always, you will hear some outstanding performances by Leon Bisquera and C.C. Redbeard, the alter ego of Connecticut-based singer/songwriter Sam Miller, superficially fits in with the whole "weird folk" movement popularized by the likes of Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom. However, Redbeard's debut album is equally akin to other current folk-rockers like Iron & Wine and Garden Ruin-vintage Calexico: these spare, largely acoustic songs feature twangy, heavily reverbed guitar parts under Miller's smoky voice, but they're otherwise not particularly psychedelic. Indeed, Miller's vocals are definitely Redbeard's most immediately appealing aspect: in a folk scene where even some of the male singers seem to want to approximate Newsom's baby-talk squeal, a singer whose vocal tone is closer to Judy Collins than Joni Mitchell is a welcome change.
