In a review about Yevette Stewart, Leonard Feather, internationally-known Jazz critic, said:"...."Yevette Stewart -- saxophonist Pete Christlieb's discovery -- is that rarity, a young singer who has jazz roots...a touch of Dinah Washington... good taste in tunes...and plenty, plenty of soul....whoever said there were no real jazz singers coming up evidently has not heard Stewart." (The late critic heard Stewart when she first debuted in Los Angeles.)Stewart cut her jazz teeth singing with her father's band at the age of 5 in San Francisco. And she worked with prestigious California/ Colorado Musicians in her later teen years. In addition to working with Christlieb, she has worked and /or recorded with Wilton Felder; Conte Condoli;movie sound tracks with Al Jarreau; backup vocals for soap star Michael Damien ; Jazz Festivals In Oregon, Los Angeles, Aspen , Denver Colorado;Natalie Cole Show; Denver Center of Performing Arts production of "Ain't Misbehavin' "voice-over TV commercials and travel from Alaska to Tokyo Japan. Zan Stewart (no relation)former L A TIMES, DownBeat and Stereophile Magazine critic : "...This is Stewart's debut CD produced by husband Jim Hughart well-known bassist /studio musician...(he) wrote most of the arrangements, as well as playing bass and contributing the superb string synthesizer parts.... It's about time for the multi-talented singer... she essays 13 tunes that look at all aspects of male-female relationships and she nails them .... with a crew made up of L. A.'s best... It's a powerhouse album, full of fun, artistry and pizazz." Love Project album
$13.89 A Million Lights...What a delightful gem "Shotgun" is. The strongest track is the addictive title track with its driving rhythm, "Take it to the limit, take it downtown, rock it to the rhythm of the California sound." Not bad for a CD recorded in Massachusetts! The opener "Cold Heart" is also a musical banquet with its swaying midtempo rhythm, the unusual musical touches (an inebriated organ?) and Beatty's voice like a caress, "An angel without wings & a box of broken dreams, I never thought of growing old." "Accidental Tourist" is also a very sweet, gentle folk-flavored confection, "A million lights were shining underneath my plane like a million broken hearts that have been left out in the rain." On "Ghostlight" Beatty's piano-based melody does sound like a classic Carole King tune, which is an entirely good thing in my book! "Battle Scar[s]" is a rhythmic blast with excellent percussion. Beatty mines "The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood" from 1968 on this Richard Farina tune. It's a dreamy soaring melody that Beatty builds, "Love is Lord of all." There are no weak tracks on "Shotgun," an excellent discovery! Enjoy! Lee Armstrong -Amazon.Com -Spotlight Review And a Lost Highway Home...Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Michael Beatty captures a unique musical vision with his third CD release. From the bass thumping city streets of the title track to the lyrical wanderlust of a Lost Highway Home -Shotgun- showcases Beatty’s song craft and voice like never before. “Infectious and smartly produced...a smooth mix of eclectic pop...a fresh direction with surprising results” -City MusicianShotgun -a collaborative effort, was produced ...
| | Carla White Voice In The Night CD (2006)
Love Project CD music
$12.69 Carla was born in Oakland, California and raised in Bellport, New York. She grew up singing and dancing her way through her parents’ classical and pop records -- Stravinsky to Sinatra. At 13, she discovered jazz and responded with a passion that became a lifelong commitment to singing. “Jazz is never a passing fancy,” Carla says. “The first time you hear jazz, really hear it -- if it connects with your soul, it changes your life.”After studying dance, drama and singing for several years, including two years at the prestigious Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she traveled throughout Europe and North Africa for nearly a year singing on the street, living in a cave and exploring other cultures. When she returned to NYC in the early 70’s, she began her musical studies with the legendary jazz pianist and teacher Lennie Tristano. With Lennie as her mentor until his death in 1978, Carla built her jazz vocabulary by singing along with Lester Young, Clifford Brown, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday and many others. She learned hundreds of songs and solos by ear.Studying next with Tristano’s protégé, saxophonist Warne Marsh, Carla concentrated on wordless improvising, or “scat” singing, exploring her voice in a purely instrumental way. This led to her first band, a bebop quintet with trumpeter Manny Duran. In 1984 they released ANDRULINE on Stash Records. CADENCE magazine wrote that “Carla White is a scat singer like the Pope is Catholic.”In 1985 Carla launched her critically acclaimed career as a solo artist. In 1987 she produced her first album for Milestone Records, ORIENT EXPRESS. Named one of the “Best Albums” of the year by JAZZIZ magazine and “Recommended Listening” by BILLBOARD, it was also a “Feature Pick” in CASH BOX. MOOD SWINGS was released by Milestone in 1988 to similar kudos, and Carla was recognized in DOWNBEAT’s 37th Annual International Critics Poll as “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition”. LISTEN HERE was released in 1995 by Evidence Music and was named one of the best CDs of the ‘90s in Downbeat. Her 1999 release CARLA WHITE LIVE AT VARTAN JAZZ was cited in the Cadence readers’ poll and editor’s choice as one of the best new issues of the year. Her newest CD CARLA WHITE IN MEXICO was released in January ...

Love Project music CDs
$15.19 LOST CHILDREN, the third release by New Orleans’ Rob Wagner Trio, presents a further extension of saxophonist Wagner’s unique musical vision. The performances on the cd are built on the foundation of the Trio’s weekly gig of four years standing–a true luxury in the creative jazz world. The high level of understanding and trust between the players is well earned. One new element in this release is bassist James Singleton’s use of distortion pedals and layered, real-time loops, expressing his interest in expanding the palette of textures available to him as an acoustic bass player. New drummer Ocie Davis brings an unusual level of subtlety, control, and dynamic range–a simmering counterbalance to Singleton’s pyrotechnics and Wagner ’s expressive lyricism. Once again presenting only his own compositions, ...
