The Follen Angels are dynamic cabaret artists who perform music from early European cabarets, the American Musical Theater, and selections from modern composers. The "Angels" originated at the Longy School of Music (on Follen Street in Cambridge) where they studied and performed for enthusiastic audiences. Hildy Grossman, Jeanne LaForgia and Rieko Tanaka each bring a unique style to the political, serious, and comical music comprising their repertoire. Together, they provide an international perspective rarely seen in this country. The Follen Angels have delighted audiences at such venues as Scullers Jazz Club, Club Passim, the French Library and Cultural Center, the Goethe Society, the Sundays at Seven Series at Longy, the Framingham Performance Center, the Blacksmith House, Natick Center for Arts, Le Meridien Hotel Boston, and Belmont Theater as well as at private functions and corporate events. They recently charmed radio listeners with an hour-long appearance on Ron Della Chiesa's "The Jazz Songbook" on WGBH. Night At The Moulin Rouge music CDs
$15.95 "This man has the gift." So said Utah Phillips, legendary figure in American folk music, after hearing Richard Berman sing at the Kerrville Folk Festival's Ballad Tree in 1992. And Richard has used that gift to write many songs that tell moving, true stories. "Gil's Song", the song that prompted Utah Phillip's appraisal, is the tale of a Wyoming sheepherder's one brief attempt at closeness and its consequences. Humor, too, is part of Richard's performance, as in "Monopoly", his first-person account of the power of that game on behavior, and ...
