Sinbad Ranch is the second album from Stephen Lomas, following the success of his earlier release, Mermaids. This time the folksy funk of his signature 'folk+plus' style embraces the edge & drive of rock, the spirit of country & even picks up a touch of jazz along the way. Strong lyrical content is a standard of Lomas's work & this album refines the theme. He rarely admits to writing love songs but the subject is apparent throughout Sinbad Ranch. The break-heart country strains of Picture in my Pocket & Radio conjure up visions of dim bar-rooms & desert back roads while the haunting affirmation of Blacktop will remind you of the guitar work of Martin Simpson, one of Lomas's major influences. Romance is even hinted in Mambo - perhaps the first song ever inspired by a pair of board-shorts! Here a strange saga unfolds within the rhythmic funk of some David Lindley-like slide work. In their diverse ways these songs all speak of the human spirit - foundering or fulfilled, realised or repentant. The musical identity that delivers these images was no accident. Lomas says 'I usally play alone, just me, a guitar & maybe a harmonica. Recording gave me the opportunity to pretend I had a band. ' A very cohesive sound was achieved by selecting some very capable musicians. On keyboards is Tim Horrigan who co-produced Stephen's first album Mermaids. John 'Groover' McDuffie from the Rita Coolidge Band adds some vital guitar & pedal steel. Holding it all together on bass & drums is Steve Goodie of Punch Sound Studios. Steve Goodie also co-produced Sinbad Ranch. This became a true act of faith, hope & e-mails as on completion of the initial tracks, Stephen Lomas moved back to Australia & Steve Goodie relocated his studio from Santa Monica to Nashville. Artese 'N ToadArtese 'N Toad are Americana songwriters based in the US now working on their sixth full length CD.'They Don't Write Songs About Trains Anymore' was born from a song written in 2001 called "Daddy's Old Train Box". The song is a story about the passing of the old toy train set in the basement from father to son. When M.T.H. Electric Trains President heard the song, he asked to have it for his train sets. He also suggested that a CD of new train songs be written. It was an easy task for duo who wrote the Americana themed project in just a few weeks. What the duo didn't know was that there was a worldwide fan base waiting for rail related songs and stories. The CD was a hit! Now with US retail and digital distribution in full swing the CD continues to sell year after year. In 2005 the success of 'Trains Volume I' enabled the duo to write and record the just as popular 'Trains Volume 2. ' 'Trains' is a must for anyone who appreciates acoustic music and a good tale. While some songs are filled with historical detail, others suggest train themes and are more about events and people around trains. The sound is pure Americana, conjuring the Sun sound of the 50's and Folk sound of the 70's-all done without letting the music get in the way of the lyrics. THE BARBARA CECIL BIOGRAPHYBarbara Cecil was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and moved out west to the rural countryside of Oregon when she was three years old. Being the last child of four children, she found herself growing up somewhat alone. Barbara found out at an early age she could entertain herself by singing. In fact she developed a strong powerful voice, by singing at the top of her lungs and as loud as she wanted. She knew that no one could hear her, way out in the woods.After high school, Barbara sang through the local pageant circuit, and sang for a local country band. IN 1994 Barbara started singing as a solo performer at state and county fairs throughout the Pacific Northwest performing her favorite kind of music, country. Anything from Patsy Cline to Shania Twain. Wanting to be taken more seriously Barbara started working with several local country bands, and writing her own music. In 1998 she opened for national recording artist Chris Ledoux and self released her first CD titled, "Big Trouble Now". In 1999 Barbara Started "The Barbara Cecil Band" and performed for one season.
