The second in BIA's 2004 Cycle is more experimental than 'January'. Specifically, the A.R.C. plays around with percussion programming and tape loops (though he doesn't use any tape). His month-long ode to Valentine's Day paints a portrait of disatisfaction and boredom, the entire album coming from a place of bitter regret and resigned apathy. That said, it has its moments of light, when things really shine. While it may not hold out much hope for V-day ever being a pleasant experience, it at least concedes not everything is bad.BIA0016 Arc February Songs | 1. | February Theme/Your V(d) |

| | Enigma LSD: Love Sensuality Devotion, The Greatest Hits CD (2001)
February CD music
$11.45 Among the many artists that helped inject a pan-global flavor into American pop music is Enigma (A.K.A. Michael Cretu), a German artist who brought the sound of chanting Gregorian monks to the charts with "Sadeness (Part I)," a breakout smash from Enigma's 1990 debut MCMXC a.d. The collection LOVESENSUALITYDEVOTION rounds out the rest of the '90s for Enigma with plenty of undulating rhythms and world music hybrids.
Dance beats are strung throughout this compilation and pop up on everything from the high-flying ambiance of "T.N.T. For The Brain" to the industrial clang of "Push the Limits" and the chugging "Modern Crusaders." One of Enigma's charms is the way the most unlikely elements find their way into the songs. A murmuring children's choir lightly breaks through the Asian-flavored "Cross Of Changes," the chant from a South American Indian gives the swirling "Return ...
| | Lemon Jelly Lost Horizons CD (2002)
February music CDs
$14.29 British ambient duo Lemon Jelly debuted in a big way with the successful LEMONJELLY.KY, but as that was really a collection of their early EPs, LOST HORIZONS is their proper debut album. As such, it's a fully formed sonic statement that maintains the warm, accessible sound that is the Lemon Jelly trademark, while mixing in a variety of other elements. Amid the sunny tinkling and mellow murmurs ...
| | B-Tribe Fiesta Fatal! CD (1994)
February songs
$9.09 The delirious "Intro" sets the stage for what's to come: murky synth washes are gently led into the sunshine by the sudden magisterial arrival of the flamenco guitar. The title track is a rousing instrumental that fuses techno with samplings of the Irish traditional ballad, "She Moved through the Fair" (referred to as "Belfast Child"), with a haunting vocal over a mix of percussion elements, synthesizer pads, and more flamenco. (Imagine Gypsy Kings mixing an album with Deep Forest). The track appears twice more, as a reprise and extended club remix. Another highlight is a reworking of an old Vangelis tune, here called "You Won't See Me ...
| | Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works '85-92 CD (1993) Remastered
February album
$24.45 One of the indisputable classics of electronica, and a defining document for ambient music in particular, SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS 85-92 is one of Aphex Twin's (AKA Richard D. James) earliest and most fully realized achievements. Reputedly created on homemade equipment deconstructed from standard synthesizers, the music within takes its cue from club beats and the techno rhythms of rave and acid-house culture. Upon these foundations, however, Aphex Twin weaves melodic tapestries of great subtlety, beauty, and atmospheric texture.
"Tha," for example, contains a muted bass-drum pulse that becomes the center for evolving patterns of sound--a kind of aural mandala. The more driving rhythm of "Heliosphan" also gives rise to the ethereal play of melody. Several tracks, such as "Schottkey 7th Path" and "Hedphelym," have a tense, telescoping ambience that evokes paranoia and a sense of gravity-free floating at once. Other selections show Aphex Twin working more firmly in the techno-dance idiom, but even these display a complexity, elegance, and delicacy rarely heard in the genre. This landmark recording is one of the essential building blocks of any electronica collection.
Originally released in 1992 and now digitally remastered and available once again for the first time ...
| | Mum Summer Make Good CD (2004)
February CD music
$11.99 In 2002, Icelandic group Mum made a worldwide splash with FINALLY WE ARE NO ONE. Between them and the similarly glacial-sounding (if more rock-oriented) Sigur Ros (and a host of less familiar names, including the Funerals), it seemed like an Icelandic invasion might be brewing. Though that didn't quite turn out to be the case, Mum's international stock remained high, and their '04 follow-up, SUMMER MAKE GOOD, is just as blissful an experience as its predecessor. As before, gentle waves of electro-acoustic ambient pop ebb and flow, blurring the lines between song structure and mood music, pop and electronica, the overt and ...

| | Joseph Hasty Rhythm Changes CD (2007)
February CD music
$8.69 One day, Leon Redbone and Nat King Cole met up with Django Reinhardt and 'Doc' Watson for lunch at this little 'south of the border' restaurant owned by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Seated next to them were John Lennon, James Taylor and Paul Simon. Next thing you know, a jam session breaks out..." In a musical career that has spanned over 30 years, Joseph Hasty has been influenced by all of those legendary artists, evidence of which can be heard on his new CD "Rhythm Changes". His extensive performing experience has carried him to stages in America, Australia and Europe - where he lived for seven years. A gifted performer who displays talents as a composer and arranger, Joseph studied jazz chord theory at the "Academy of Contemporary Music" in Zurich, Switzerland, but he credits the Mickey Baker Jazz Guitar book for his distinctive jazzy-rhythmic-guitar style. A three-time recipient of the "Regional Artist's Grant" award presented through the North Carolina Arts Council, Joseph currently plays guitar and/or upright bass and sings lead or harmony vocals with several regional acts in Western North Carolina including his own Jazz combo: "Centerpiece". While living in Europe, he first performed on street corners with various ensembles and even played with the likes of Charlie Hunter - 8 string jazz guitar master - on a couple of 'pitches'. A gifted performer who also sings and plays double bass, Joseph displays talents as an arranger and composer where his swing guitar and Latin influences are realized. "Rhythm Changes", the new release by Joseph Hasty, is a truly eclectic blend of original acoustic jazz that features everything from straight-ahead swing to the bossa nova. The listener will also find a samba tune that would make any Brazilian proud as well as a jazz waltz that is literally 'cooler than the other side of the pillow!'This Acoustic jazz album features intelligent compositions with a mature sound that is sure to please music lovers of all stripes. Guitar, upright bass, mandolin and violin are all featured on this extraordinary release with smooth vocals that will remind you of a cross between Michael Franks and John Pizzarelli.JOSEPH HASTY & CENTERPIECE create a distinctive yet classic sound, playing a variety of swing tunes, show tunes, latin and jazz standards. The original tunes are a cross between a classic small combo swing band and that of an acoustic latin sound similar to that of Jobim or some of David Grisman's Dawg music. Sometimes you will be reminded of the "Hot Club" sound of Django Reinhart and Stephan Grappelli, other times it will be the Nat King Cole Trio - only without the piano. All blending to form a smooth, very listenable sound that is great for the cocktail hour or for dancers that know all of the classic moves!CENTERPIECE performs a variety of venues and occasions and will modify the band line up to form a duo, trio, quartet or quintet ...
