Dear Special One,Growing up with big dreams was all this ordinary girl could think about. Spending most Saturday nights behind a shut bedroom door singing into an old Coke bottle to Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sister's was a regular occurrence. It would infuriate me to hear my family clapping outside the door and interrupting my own personal moment. Growing up in a local church I suffered terrible stage fright to the point that when my mouth opened, NOTHING came out. But, oh, how I wanted to sing. For as long as I can remember, this was my heart's desire. High School was over, graduate degree obtained, a great job, fabulous husband and daughter and then 10 years went by before we were blessed with our precious baby boy. A joyous moment clouded by the death of my Meme, which broke my heart completely. I can't even write this without tears again. Thinking I was holding up pretty well, four months later my world stopped. I began having difficulty breathing, fatigue, and really weird moments of unusual feelings. One day I just couldn't get out of bed. I had no strength left. Several physicians later there were no answers except anxiety, panic attacks and soon came depression from the lack of findings. From days of not being able to function to nights of complete insomnia I was exhausted. All the medications intensified the symptoms and I began having horrible nightmares. Fear consumed my every moment. I could not make decisions anymore and I was totally not myself. At this point I had no longer been singing. I was desperate for help and I went back to church. Then, out of nowhere, every sermon I heard was about using the gifts God gave you. What I did not realize was that if you hold back from glorifying him with those gifts, it was disobedient. I pretty much blew that off quickly until sermons outside of my home church rang the same message. The conviction became overwhelming so I let the Music Director know I was ready to sing in church. "Love Lifted Me" would be my choice. The odd thing is after I said that The Cherry Family (evangelists visiting us for revival) got up and sang "Love Lifted Me.! Coincidence? Don't think so! This is where God began to reveal his plan for me more aggressively. I grew up saved at an early age but NEVER had or understood that I could have a "personal relationship" with Jesus Christ. I never knew I could converse with Him as I do my friends and, that I could tell Him all my fears, worries, and deep dark secrets. (He knew them anyway) He didn't care; he loved me the way I was.
