Daniel Liszt is a singer/songwriter from Cambridge, Massachusetts whose work has been steadily gaining attention from the music world. Liszt's work has earned him mention and good reviews in Musician and Billboard magazines, as well as a largely underground following and college airplay. After working with his friend, acclaimed violinist Mat Maneri, on a series of creative musical projects, Liszt decided to focus on writing new material and assembled a stellar band to back him up. His new CD, "Distance," produced by studio Ace Tom Dube (Aimee Mann, Reeves Gabrels), is set for release in late November 2003. "Distance" promises to be an outstanding debut, showcasing Liszt's unique qualities as a recording artist, composer and vocalist.Liszt's songs, full of emotionally-charged imagery and searching lyrics, are inspired by his exploration of people, dreams, relationships, experiences and imagination. As he weaves his musical tales his compelling vocals, at once sensitive and intense, draw the listener into the internal landscape of the characters from the songs. Whether it's the forgotten folk-hero, Sunny Ray, a washed up musician that dominates "Jupiter in the Big City," or the trapped, wealthy socialite in search of redemption in Hole In the Ozone, there is a thread of psycho-spiritual distance in their lives that raises the subject matter of alienation, a recurring theme on the CD. Liszt's music offers a storybook of ideas and feelings painted upon an eclectic, musical canvas. The combination of melodic subtlety and heartfelt sentiment that courses through his work is a musical highlight that can hardly be missed. $14.30 Rush is no stranger to best-of compilation albums, they've released a slew of them. They are also no stranger to DVDs. To mark their 35th anniversary, they've released Working Men, which is both; it marks their first best-of live compilation exclusively from the DVD sets Rush in Rio (2003), R30 (2005), and Snakes & Arrows Live (2008). There is also an unreleased cut from R30 -- a killer version of One Little Victory. While fans may simply regard this as a record company cash grab, hardcore fans know how closely Rush monitors each release and controls all aspects of their career. On hearing these tracks without benefit of ...

| | Matthew Hirte Future Days CD (2001)
Distance songs
$14.79 Future Days was written from the hardships and disappointments in my life that inevitably made me stronger. Having to deal with what the world is in reality. But also about achieving and understanding. Accepting your hardships because they make you what you are. Of course there have been many good times and I do write about them but a lot of what art is, is sometimes created by fairly disturbing truths. Writing about them is therapy and the audience is the therapist. The songs are a reflection of life, community and celebration as well as frustration, and the shock of many truths. I have had many good times and dealings with a lot of good people during the years but the end result of almost every project has ended up in postponement or abandonment. Sometimes it seemed like the whole world was against me. A musician's life is usually a hard one. Being a great musician is one of the most difficult things to achieve on the planet. Trying to make a living at it is even harder. It is easy to blame society for your problems especially when you are up against something so big. But you can't blame them. You can't expect one to understand what you're going through. You can't compare your problems to other peoples. It will just drag you down. All you can do is keep going. You have to take the bad with the good and keep focused. The musician story is the life story through song. It can be about rough times and difficult experiences but they're actually a celebration of acknowledgement, which is what I call a "release". It is a bold statement. That is why the fight is worth it. It puts you in a place where you want to be. And as a person who refuses to give up, all of those problems, obstacles and so called failures are turned into knowledge and experience by being strong and believing in oneself. Never give up. Never surrender. Ones focus always determines ones outcome. The world is not against ...
