Trestle Bridge
$18.99 Born in Moldova, in the former Soviet Union, Izolda has been singing since before she can remember. Her mother, a professional vocalist, sang with her (Izolda sang harmonies) and inspired in her a love of folk and traditional music. Taught by her grandfather, she started studying classical violin when she was five. Then, after her family emigrated from Moldova, she played the violin in orchestras, sang in choirs, and discovered musical theatre. In high school, singing with the likes of Andrew Lippa and Jeffrey Seller (producer of Rent), she discovered jazz, specifically a cappella jazz. After performing in various choirs at the University of Michigan, where she got her BA in English Drama, she moved to Washington, DC and quickly formed an a cappella trio called Fleur-de-Lis. Fleur-de-Lis performed in area clubs and festivals. At this time, Izolda discovered the sheer fun of playing the recorder and has serenaded the boulders at Death Valley and many other places that her travels have taken her. She then joined the percussive, upbeat, Celtic-style world beat folk ensemble, Kiva. She appears on two Kiva albums. She was also a founding member of the band Elemental, a traditional/Celtic with jazz influence band. In recent years, Izolda finally gave in to the lifelong call of the guitar and she's been thrilled with it ever since. In December 2000 she debuted on guitar at the Cerridwin's Coffeehouse in Silver Spring, MD. She sang her song about one person's experience of the longest night, "Solstice Morn." A comment on the guitar, "What magic! It's time consuming, and I get lost in it and suddenly two hours have passed and my fingers hurt but it's been worth it. I really believe ...

$17.75 "Music has extraordinary transformative power, both for the musician and listener. It's what I'm always trying to tap into, regardless of the musical style or setting."-Kevin McLeod"As guitar players go, Kevin is about as fine a player as you'll ever hear. He is capable of getting a great tone out of both electric and acoustic guitars." - 20th Century Guitar Magazine, Sept. 2003"If you're going to go for an earthy, stripped-down sound without fancy production work, your songwriting skills had better be good. Fortunately, Kevin McLeod's got that covered. His guitar chops are strong... McLeod's songs address a wide range of issues. He writes music for his children to dance to, and then he gets gritty and dark with 'Sirens in the Distance'. This may be modern folk, but it leaves a good old-fashioned peaceful vibe in my soul. " - Indie-Music.com, Nov. 2005 "The Road Home... is one of those few albums where I can honestly say I like every number. It's hard to pick a favorite." - Good Times, Nov. 2003 "I have followed McLeod since his days with the jazzpop and instrumental ...

$13.89 Music has always been with me. At the age of five or six, I was captured on home movies singing Elvis Presley songs, and doing my best to entertain. I began playing the guitar at about the age of ten. The music I was exposed to was quite varied and was rich in diversity: Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Hank Williams, Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins, Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole and Crosby, Stills and Nash. My father was the primary music influence in these early years, and his music was mostly country with a mixture of thirties and forties classics thrown ...
| | Neal & Leandra Angels & Fools CD (2005)
Trestle Bridge
$15.19 Hagberg was on his way to medical school and Peak to a career in international business when the road veered. Since then they have found themselves singing to sold out thousand seat venues in some towns and four people and a sick dog (true story) in others. Leandra - private by nature - was dragged kicking and screaming into the spotlight. Even though she had acted in a professional theater group as a teenager, she had no desire to make a career out of it, and refused even to take solos in the high school choir. As a little girl, all she ever wanted was to be on Johnny Carson. Not for her voice, not for her writing or stage presence, but because she thought Johnny would simply find her funny.Neal thought a career in professional sports sounded good. Being a small college wishbone quarterback did not exactly prepare him for the NFL. It didn't prepare him for the folk world either, but he figured at least in music he wouldn't get landed on by 300 lb. noseguards. So, he wrote some songs, some people liked them, and he quit his med school plans to go on the road. He somehow convinced Leandra to go along. That is the story in a nutshell. Leandra grew up in Louisville, KY, Neal in Montevideo, MN. Leandra was raised on Perry Como and barbershop, Neal on The Mamas and the Papas and Swedish hymns. They met at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota in 1981. Off-again, ...
