As the follow up to Life as a Fish, the high energy three piece mixes it up with punk rock, reggae, and simply, a fun happy go lucky vibe that IS the San Diego lifestyle. Comprised of a self proclaimed surf bum, computer geek, and metal head, the crew surprisingly mesh well together and have rocked shows throughout the West Coast with such bands as Blink 182, Buck o Nine, Ween, Kyuss, SX10, HED (pe), and Slightly Stupid. Their attitude and music represent well for the 15 year old in all of us and with the melodic bass riffs and distinct vocals of Sol Turpin, the raging guitar riffs of Greg Karlo and the primal drum beats of Eric Rockwell, you would be hard pressed to find another band with so much energy in such a small group. They have been licensed in numerous action sport films including Quiksilver's Niijima Pro DVD, The Next Invasion, and ESPN's Ultimate X DVD as well as, numerous TV shows on Fox Sports, ESPN, Outdoor Life Network, and FUEL TV. As children of the beach, the band surfs regularly and has endorsements from Ezera Surfboards, Sticky Bumps Surf wax, and are super stoked to be recently added to the Curt Mangan Strings artist roster.Is it just me or is everyone and everything that comes from San Diego cool? They have the best surf, the hottest chicks, the best weather, and the best music, no wonder that is where Safety Orange was discovered. Dateline: Los AngelesAt a press conference today, Southern California based band "LOVE NUGGET" announced they would be the first band in history to attempt a performance at the summit of Mount Everest, the highest peak on the planet. "We also will be making the attempt without the help of bottled oxygen," says vocalist Jennifer Gross. "We're already asking so much of our sherpas; lights, sound, food, drinks. It seemed like too much to add oxygen onto an already overworked, but highly trained crew of climbing sherpas. Gross feels she's ready now for this attempt. Her training includes the album "The Woman In The Moon" released in Japan, background vocals for various pop trekkers, and high altitude vocals that have helped more than a few corporations reach lofty figures. "I feel more ready now than ever before all we need is a little good weather."Drums can be a bit of a problem at high altitudes," says drummer and percussionist, Mauricio "Fritz" Lewak. "We know that it's very likely that drum heads and sticks can shatter at the below freezing temperatures found at the summit - we're currently trying to work that out. I'm confident we'll have a solution before we leave the last base camp for the summit. I'll be wearing gloves too." The last thing Bobruk and producer Darwin Smith wanted to do with The Safety Match Journal was make another singer-songwriter record.
