| | Steve Benoit Where I Belong CD Steve Benoit Discography of CDs
On his debut full-length release 'Where I Belong', Canadian singer-songwriter Steve Benoit's songwriting shines through sparse arrangements and minimal instrumentation. Recorded in Nashville, it's an acoustic record which Steve calls a little bit 'Nebraska' a little bit 'Harvest', with some traditional country elements and a lot of soul. Steve's stellar line up who contributed to the project is: Michael Webb - Piano, Accordion (played with Allison Moorer, Sheryl Crow, and also has worked as a producer with Stacey Earle); Ozzy Osment - Fiddle (played with Kenny Chesney, and a slew of classic country stars such as Webb Pierce and Faron Young); Lee Warren - Pedal Steel (plays with Canadian country star Michelle Wright); Sam Poland - Pedal Steel (played with The Cactus Brothers); Chris Frame - Guitar (who in 2005 began playing with Son Volt); and Nancy Middleton, a singer-songwriter from North Carolina who adds beautiful background vocals to most of the tracks. Also included on the cd is a track Steve cut in his Native Northern Ontario for a compilation entitled 'Spirit of the North'. 'The Great Fire of 1922' is a true story of a fire that ravaged his hometown 80 years ago and is getting National airplay in Canada. Steve brought the members of his band 'The Box Elders' which are drummer Ken Griffin (who has recorded with the great Merle Haggard) and his wife Ruth on Bass..they make a tight rhythm section. The Cd was engineered and co-produced by local roots-rocker Dutch who's also worked with New Orleans Honky-Tonker Kim Carson as well as a list of his own bands. Where I Belong songs
$17.09 From headlining at the Blue Note with his jazz piano trio to his sold out performances as a singer/songwriter David Morgan is consistently producing and performing music that is diverse and dynamic. “David is a truly extraordinary pop singer-songwriter—right alongside his glorious preceding accomplishments as a jazz musician.” (Jim Bessman of Billboard Magazine)Originally from San Francisco, Morgan grew up listening to everything from the Beatles to John Coltrane to Chopin. In 1987, when still in high school, he was severely bitten by the jazz bug. Two years later he moved to the University of New Orleans to pursue his love of jazz where jazz was born. At UNO, he studied piano and composition with legends Ellis Marsalis and Harold Battiste. It was there that he first played with Wynton Marsalis, James Rivers, Wes Anderson and Nycholas Payton. “My time in New Orleans, studying with Ellis and Harold by day and playing in clubs almost every night was an unparalleled stage in my development. I cherish that time in my life”Before heading for New York, producer/composer Battiste released his first jazz CD, “Comment” on AFO Records. Battiste says, “His credentials as composer, producer, arranger, leader and player are rooted in the best traditions of jazz: taste, wit, integrity and swing. Did I forget to mention FUNK?! New Orleans left some stuff on him.” Morgan has since released two additional critically acclaimed live jazz CD’s, “Hands of Time” (Turnipseed Music) and “The David ...

Where I Belong songs
$15.95 Ambitious, uncategorizable and absolutely fearless second album from this trumpet player to the stars. She toured the world as part of the Burning Brass, the sizzling all-woman horn section that backed reggae legend Burning Spear on a couple of classic albums. She's also played with Natalie Merchant, Bonnie Raitt, Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, Dennis Brown, Maxi Priest, NYC Reggae Collective, Rachelle Garniez, Metropolitan Klezmer and Isle of Klezbos.Climb features another alluring set of original songs. Pam is joined by vocalist Dana Calitri on two thunderous hit ballads: "Angel of Adventure" and "Lose My Mind", which will give even Pop radio an emotional jolt.Unlike so many 'jazz cats' these days, Pam is a songwriter first and foremost. Her tunes are memorable, catchy, and they tell a lot of stories. Fleming can pull a crescendo out of thin air. She can also pull hard on your heartstrings. Pam plays with a pure, clear tone that recalls nothing less than the Prince of Darkness himself, Miles Davis, with equal subtlety, terseness and flair for the unexpected. Her first CD, 'Fearless Dreamer', was a lush, romantic adventure in sonic seduction. This one dares to go everywhere. 'Climb' comprises bouncy roots reggae, thoughtfully ambient 'soundtrack' melodies, pop songs, funk-infused grooves and a little late-night blues. Pam brings it all together 'fearlessly'! The moody title track "CLIMB", was written right after the attacks on September 11th, 2001. This song is dedicated to all those who lost their lives, and all those who lost someone they love and miss. Musicians:Pamela Fleming - trumpet/flugelhorn/additional piano & synth/vocals (vocs on tracks 3, 4 & 10)Allen Won - saxes/bass flute/alto fluteJim West - piano/synthPeter Calo - electric & acoustic guitarLeo Traversa - bassTodd Isler - drums/hadgini/hand drumsDana Calitri - vocals (track 4 & 10)Track Review:By Alan Young - NY music reviewerThe album's opening track, "Say Goodbye" is less of a lament that the title might imply, floating in on an irresistible trumpet hook that returns in all the right places. (There has to be a cool cult favorite TV show in need of something this catchy.)The next two tunes, "Slimy Business" and "Forward Sign" groove to a reggae beat; the first, a stylish vamp with adventurous, crescendoing solos for Allen Won's tenor and Fleming's trumpet. Next, Pam surprises us and sings on this conscious roots tune. As the lyrics ...
