BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. Dear Friend,This CD is a work of love for my husband Eugene. We were about to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I wanted to give him a special gift to remember this occasion. I remembered my former guitar teacher, Quanah Hicks, had asked me if I wouldn’t like to record a song sometime. What a perfect gift that would be for my husband!So in October of 2003, I got together with Quanah and started recording secretly from my husband because this was to be a surprise. By June of 2004 I had 12 songs recorded including the songs I sang for our engagement in February of 1979 and our wedding in August of 1979. Now it was time to start the production process. With the help of Disc Makers, I was able to produce a professional CD and present it to my husband when we went out to celebrate our anniversary on August 6, 2004. He was surprised. He knew I was up to something but had no idea what it was. He showed the pictures on the CD to the waitresses and explained the story behind each picture. We will never forget our 25th anniversary.I have always loved to sing. My mother tells a story of when I had the mumps at 3 years old. She thought she wouldn’t hear any singing for a few days and she said so. But I sang through the mumps. I sang my first solo in church when I was 12 years old. The song was “Are Ye Able Said the Master”. Since then I have performed many solos. I went to school in France in 1976-1977 and while there I traveled all over France singing with the school’s traveling choir in magnificent theatres and cathedrals. I studied voice and the French language while in France. That was a great experience and a lot of fun. I am not a singer by trade. I am a schoolteacher. I teach French and Spanish and I use a lot of music in my classes. I still love to sing and I sing in church with the church choir and solos, for special occasions, and sometimes I get hired to sing for weddings and other events. I hope to do more performing in the future.My husband Eugene and I have 3 handsome sons that we are very proud of. We raised them on our family farm in upstate New York so they learned about working hard and life in a natural setting. They didn’t always appreciate the farm but it was a good place for them to grow up. All three of them graduated in 2004. Matthew graduated with his masters’ degree in business. Andrew graduated with his bachelors’ degree in government and secondary education. Luke graduated from high school and is now studying at SUNY Potsdam.Our son Andrew married his college sweetheart on September 17, 2005 in Vermont. What a privilege it was for me to sing for their wedding. One of the songs they chose was our wedding song which is on the CD – Wedding Prayer. ...
