Block Work album
$14.30 Just half a year from the release of the mysteriously unauthorized catalog clearinghouse/label kiss off Murder Was the Case, Gucci Mane returns with The State vs. Radric Davis, his latest on Warner Bros.' Asylum imprint. True to form, the bling-loving rapper brings the club-ready Dirty South rap, complete with trunk-rattling bass and trademark synths. Featuring production by Drumma Boy, Mannie Fresh, Shawty Redd, and Scott Storch, amongst others, it's no surprise that the album is able to perfectly capture the low and slow Southern sound. Some of the best beats come by way of Bangladesh (producer on the Lil Wayne single "A Milli"), who drops some seriously roll slowing Atlanta heat on "Stupid Wild" and "Lemonade." The all-star roster doesn't just stop on the production side. Soulja Boy Tell `Em, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and Bun B (as well as countless others) drop in with guest verses, culminating in an album that's so jam-packed with Dirty South royalty that it almost feels a little light on Gucci Mane. While the galaxy of guest stars has become commonplace in the rap world, it's Gucci's solo songs that paint a picture of what the rapper is really like, peeling back ...

| | BirdMan Pricele$$ CD (2009) Deluxe Edition
Block Work music CDs
$15.34 He may be a veteran rapper, but by 2009, Birdman was better known and more active as a label owner, mostly because he was the label owner, manager, and mentor of hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne. As such, Birdman's Pricele$$ doesn't display a new set of skills when it comes to rapping and writing, but it does present the stone-cold millionaire as a more assured man, extremely comfortable to be on top and in charge of the now innovative and interesting Cash Money. If Birdman doesn't take lyrical chances, Wayne and Cash Money upstart Drake are more than willing, making tracks like "Money to Blow," "Bring it Back," and the Timbaland-produced title cut all highlights. Edgier production from the current in-house stable of producers helps too, and even if Birdman is stuck on money, money, and more money, musical detours into the world of dance music ("I Want It All") and T-Pain's brand of ultra-glossy R&B ("Shinin") keep the album from feeling stagnant. Not startling but satisfying and worth the attention of the Cash Money faithful. ~ David Jeffries

He is a feared lyricist in the battle rap environment where he occasionally does his thing against anyone willing to challenge him. Once a rebellious young man but also hungry, with a ...

| | Debra Barsha Barsha Raw! The Official Barsha Bootleg CD (2007)
Block Work CD music
$12.69 This album is a live recording at Ars Nova in NYC in May of 2004. Debra Barsha's first official bootleg CD!If you are looking for Debra Barsha, you will find her hop-scotching across the boundaries of contemporary music. Gleefully defying classification, Barsha is that rare talent that sees show business itself as a medium. Singer, songwriter, actress, composer, pianist, raconteur, Barsha is just as comfortable fueling the grooves on a George Clinton album as she is writing an Off-Broadway musical about a pop-art icon (Keith Haring-Radiant Baby). With a career that includes television soundtracks, children's musicals, one-woman shows, and national tours with post-mod British pop-stars (Thomas Dolby), Debra Barsha manages to put the undeniable stamp of her own musical personality on the full spectrum of her work. In 2002, Debra Barsha won the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation Award for the score to Radiant Baby, which was produced at the Public Theater in 2003, directed by George C. Wolfe. Radiant Baby received 3 Lucille Lortel nominations including Outstanding Musical. As a co-lyricist in addition to composer, Debra worked alongside The Life's Ira Gasman (lyrics) and Forever Plaid's Stuart Ross (Book & Lyrics) to create not only to write a musical inspired by the life of pop artist Keith Haring, but to conceptually capture the spirit of 1980s New York club scene. 'Throbbing melodies' (The New York Times), 'a bright, boisterous lullaby' (Theatre ...
