| | Crayons What Color Are You? CD Crayons Discography of CDs
History The Crayons first appeared as a boston based group around 1998. There was some recording and playing but the project was shortlived. Singer/songwriter Keith Caruana took flight from Boston and after a short stay on the West Coast returned to his New Jersey hometown. While playing solo acoustic shows as "The Crayons" Keith recorded an acoustic e.p. at a friends garage. The 6-song "236 astor" was released in 2001 on Keith's own Shimmerwax label. Capitalizing on favorable reviews and successful live shows Keith played throughout the Northeast finishing the year with a month long tour of the Southeast u.s. 2002 The Crayons needed a follow up a full length "electric" recording "What Color Are You?" With a desire to expand the sound Keith turned to his friends, indie pop masters The Churchills. The recording was done at Frankensound studio in North Brunswick,NJ. The Churchills both produced and lent thier playing skills to the sessions. The combination proved to be a perfect fit. The resulting 10 track disc is a collection of pop hooks, harmonies, and lots of guitars. The new release will come out under the New York based indie label Cropduster Records. This label features some other great artists such as Bob Perry, of Winter Hours fame,The Health and Happiness Show and Patti Rothberg to name a few. | | Lee Feldman Living It All Wrong CD (1997)
What Color Are You? CD music
$8.49 One of the more auspicious debuts in recent memory, LIVING IT ALL WRONG introduces a New York singer/ songwriter/ pianist of uncommon depth. On first hearing, Lee Feldman's highly original music and lyrics bring to mind some heavy forebears: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Monk, Randy Newman, even Beethoven! What's remarkable however is that the songs themselves sound so natural and unforced--whatever influences unified through expert songcraft as well as a sure musical judgement born of long residence on the N.Y. pop and jazz scene. To cite just one example: the simple placing ...

| | Kjehl Johansen Towel Of Isolation CD (2002)
What Color Are You? songs
$12.49 ?My name is Kjehl and I'm a recovering collaborator. I'm turning my life and my music over to the path of Ball Hogism. Mike Watt's first solo album in 1995 asked the question: "Ball Hog or Tug Boat?" In 2002 the same question looms over Kjehl Johansen and his first solo album, Tower of Isolation. The answer can be found in album itself. Johansen wrote, produced and mixed all 14 tracks. Except for a few instrumentals, he sings all the songs, plays all the keyboard parts, plays guitar on each track and took a hand in playing bass or writing bass lines for a third of the album. He even created the collage that was used for the album design. Well, it seems the answer to the looming question is as clear as a drive toward the basket by Pistol Pete Maravich: BALL HOG. Why a Ball Hog? As with most deep-seated problems, the answer can be found in the past. Johansen has been a chronic collaborator since he first surfaced with UCLA's most infamous punk band, the Urinals. After moving from the backwater position of organ player for the Urinals, Johansen switched to guitar and began a six-year collaboration with bassist/vocalist John Talley-Jones and drummer Kevin Barrett. His mission: get the job done and make the songs work. This approach required Johansen to move within a minimal, yet rich, song writing bandwidth. He brought in stripped down two and three chord structures for the band to build upon ("Hologram" and "Salmonella"). In a stroke of genius, he added the second chord to "Ack Ack Ack Ack" to finish the song (!). He gave birth to the guitar assault that became the end of "Presence of Mind." He laid down a funk groove for "All Sexed Up" with a guitar part that still sizzles and stings years later. And, he bludgeoned fellow band-mates with the Bo Diddley-rockabilly-voodoo-death riff that led to "Motor Boat toHell," (just to drop the name of a few song titles).During its run, the band passed up the opportunity to be recorded by Paul Cutler (later of 45 Grave and The Dream Syndicate) and turned down an offer by Bemisbrain Records to record and release an album by 100 Flowers, the name the Urinals later adopted. These seldom told details leave the inevitable "what ifs" lingering in the air like cheap perfume. The band's ability to write ...
