Alluring. Sophisticated. Spirited. Timeless. The new CD by acclaimed artist, Anjani is a mesmerizing collection of original songs with elements of acoustic, smooth jazz, and world music. The exquisite dance through passionate love and human frailty, to a state of inner peace and acceptance, is beautifully expressed in this long awaited release.Anjani portrays affairs of the heart with vision and integrity, in this intimate, revealing, self-produced work. She generates an aura of compassion through astute lyrics that are convincing and uplifting, never banal or predictable. The ultimate reward of this project is a soothing, compelling affirmation of unconditional love. What sets Anjani apart from other vocally blessed singer/songwriters, is her mastery of the keyboard. In the words of one reviewer, "The arrangement on this song (Ain't Foolin' No One) is so subtle and well filled out, it is a while before you realize it is only voice and piano, with no other accompanying instruments."From "Here and Now," an acoustic soundtrack for life, to the classic style torch ballad, "Over You," to the ki ho'alu (slack key guitar) sound of "Kanaloa," a duet featuring Henry Kapono; every tune is an unexpectedly refreshing offering that reaches far beyond ordinary pop fare. Anjani's compositions contain many references to nature, reflecting her upbringing in the tropical, verdant, multi-cultured paradise of Hawaii. A world class rhythm section provides sensitive embellishment to these highly crafted songs. Distinguished fusion jazz virtuoso, Frank Gambale plays acoustic guitar on five cuts, most notably the latin tinged samba, "Ties That Bind." Leonard Cohen calls Anjani, "...a world class singer with an unforgettable voice." Anjani has performed with Cohen since 1984, when she sang background vocals on his hallmark tune, Hallelujah. Their most recent collaboration is Blue Alert (2006 Columbia Records, produced by Leonard Cohen), ten bittersweet lovesongs featuring Cohen's lyrics with music, arrangements and vocals by Anjani.

New York City
Peter Malick New York City CD  (2003) (Import) Bonus Track; Japan

Anjani CD music
CD $44.15
The album NEW YORK CITY, released in 2003 under the name the Peter Malick Group, found Grammy-winning singer Norah Jones joining guitarist Malick for a session of mellow, rootsy blues tracks. Jones's gauzy vocals fit perfectly with the mood of the music, and the album was a success. THE CHILL ALBUM, released subsequently, featured downtempo DJ remixes of NEW YORK CITY's tracks, while THE REMIX ALBUM, another remix treatment of the Jones/Malick project, focused on groove-oriented versions. THE DELUXE NEW YORK CITY COLLECTION brings together all three albums. A glance at the track list might frighten off those unfamiliar with the albums, since the same six song titles appear over and over across the 31 tracks of the double album. But the DJ tracks are so radically transformed that they may as well have come from a different universe (while still retaining the enticing, relaxed mood of the originals). The set comes recommended to fans of Jones, contemporary blues, and downtempo electronica. "Here, in the tradition of Billie Holiday was a stunningly beautiful, blues infused voice. This was my first contact with Norah Jones." Peter Malick was not talking about hearing COME AWAY WITH ME for the first time, but about encountering an unknown artist working in the trenches of New York City clubs approximately two years before Ms. Jones's Grammy deluge. Fortunately for Malick, Jones was receptive to the idea of working together on some of his own bluesy material. The resulting sessions, recorded in 2000 and released here ...

Live At The Azure Cafe
Matthew Fogg Live At The Azure Cafe CD  (2005)

Anjani album
CD $15.95
Matthew Fogg-a Day in the (Ongoing) LifeIn August of 1968, the Beatles released "Hey Jude" as the inaugural single on their new Apple Records label. The conventional "wisdom" at that time was that artists seldom-if ever-involved themselves in business matters, and certainly never to the extent of forming their own label! But the release of "Hey Jude" turned conventional wisdom on its head for quite another reason. Clocking in at over seven minutes, the song shattered the expectation that singles (or 45's, as they were known back in the day!) would fit the comfortable formula of a nice, radio-friendly two-to-three minutes. The Beatles-specifically Paul McCartney in this instance-refused to compromise what they felt was their artistic vision. "Hey Jude" remained unedited, and the rest, as they say, is history.A little over ten years later, on November 6, 1978, Matthew Fogg was born. While it may appear heretical to some to correlate the two events in ANY way, I'd actually venture the opinion that the "Fabs" themselves would have recognized a kindred spirit!I'll return to this point, and a few others, shortly. For the time being, however, let me sketch a brief biography of the subject in question!Matthew Fogg's musical journey began as a trumpet player. His interest in the piano didn't develop until high school, when he began listening to greats such as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, and Keith Jarret. These legendary jazz musicians, among others, helped Matt discover a new passion to pursue...jazz piano.Matthew attended the University of New Hampshire, earning a degree in Music Education with an emphasis on piano (concentrating on jazz, as well as classical). He's performed in university ensembles and had the opportunity ...

Stink
Replacements Stink CD  (1982) Bonus Tracks; Reissue; Deluxe Edition

Anjani CD music

Like the band's debut, SORRY MA, FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH, this follow-up EP pays homage to punk rock by keeping things loud, sloppy, hard and relentlessly paced. Pile-driving rhythms by drummer Chris Mars and bassist Tommy Stinson, screaming leads from guitarist Bob Stinson and the shredded, breathless vocals of Paul Westerberg fuel these slices of white knuckle hardcore. The effect created is the sonic equivalent of a speeding car careening through a wall of burning televisions. The track titles say it all. "Kids Don't Follow," "Fuck School," "Goddamn Job," "Dope Smokin' Moron," and "Gimme Noise" should, in musical execution and thematic orientation, convince any listener beyond a shadow of a doubt of STINK's pure punk ethos. Like their similarly styled contemporaries Husker Du and Soul Asylum, the Replacements grew as musicians and songwriters, with a greater concern for melody, throughout the '80s; STINK is an ear-shaking testament to the band's no nonsense, hardcore roots. Almost as if they were aware that Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash was masquerading as a hardcore album, the Replacements designed their second record as a mean, lean, nasty, brutish affair, the opposite of the mirthfully messy Sorry Ma. Stink wasn't even a full-fledged album -- at eight tracks, it was labeled a mini-LP, maybe just a bit longer than an EP, but it was just scraping by at 14 minutes regardless of what label it wore. So, it was tighter than Sorry Ma but that wasn't the only way Stink seemed more like a hardcore record: the band approximated a hardcore rave-up at the end of the white blooze parody "White and Lazy," and Paul Westerberg's songs bristled with anger against all manner of middle-class irritants, as he spit vitriol at his "God Damn Job" and told school to go f*ck itself. Such a sudden burst of anger could almost seem parodic, especially with such snide jokes as the Frère Jacques chorus of "Gimme Noise," if the Replacements didn't sound so lethal: they're hard and merciless, never stopping for air. This is where the brevity of Stink is in its favor -- not that it would be too much to take if it were longer, but at such a brief length this dose of thunder is positively addictive. And only when it starts to roll away does ...
