Dan Shull is a Performer/Producer/Writer who also records his eclectic mix of Smooth Jazz/R&B/Pop music at his recording studio, Wit's End, for his Indie Label, Earitation Records. Growing up in a musical family, Dan Shull began studying a wide range of instruments at a very early age. Influenced by the Soul/R&B/Pop and Jazz of the 60’s & 70’s Dan was composing and scoring for both his self & others in his early teens. By age 16 he was simultaneously playing Guitars, Bass, & Saxophone in numerous Rock, Soul & Jazz groups, including Alto Sax with the 16-PC Bob Haas Orchestra. Dan went on to study Theory & Composition at East Carolina University W/ Saxophone applied, and continued to play with Bob Haas on the weekends. In 1998 Dan was asked to help form the Fusion/Blues Trio Bone Daddy, for whom he played Bass Guitar. In November 2000, Wit’s End was converted from a practice facility to a recording studio. Dan spent the next two years arranging, writing, recording & mixing his debut release, You Tell Me (his response to the question “what kind of music do you play?”) on Earitation Records. Several songs from You Tell Me enjoyed extensive airplay including the Internet hit City & Me. In 2004 Dan formed and played keyboards for Wit’s End (named after the studio), an R&B & Bluesion powerhouse that rocked the N.C. Triad, including 2005 appearances at Alive After Five and Summer On Trade for the Winston-Salem Events Series. In the Winter of 2005/06 Dan turned his attention back to Saxophone and Guitar and began to perform and record with multi-talented Jim Tedder. This union led to the formation of Cityscapes, a Jazz/Pop duet featuring Dan on Guitar/Sax/Vocals and Jim on Piano and Vocals. Dan Shull now performs extensively, primarily on Saxophone, and has a number solo CD projects under way scheduled for release later this year. Dan has also recorded, arranged and produced a number of other acts since 2001. You Tell Me music CDs
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, ...

You Tell Me music CDs
$18.99 ABOUT GRETCHEN:Performing in the Washington, DC area since the late-1980s, and in California before that, Gretchen began her professional career at age 14 singing in a rock group. This led to song-writing, solo performing, and musical theater. In theater she reconnected with the music of her childhood years - the great popular standard. Made famous by such greats as Nat King Cole, Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney, this is the music she performs today. Forgoing the usual vocal inflections of be-bop or pop, she brings a fresh, understated and authentic presence to her material. ABOUT THE CD:Released in 2001, Close Your Eyes has received an enthusiastic reception. The recording features relaxed, polished arrangements and Gretchen's warm, melodic voice. Her deeply personal interpretations find the heart in this collection of swinging and romantic tunes.REVIEWS:"Gretchen Richie brings the full force of her considerable talent and intelligence to her vocals; her voice can be velvet or brass, a whisper or a lament, depending on the mood of the song."-Pat Ullberg, The Calvert Recorder, April 2003REVIEW BY MIKE JOYCE FOR THE WASHINGTON POST:"When it comes to selling a song, Gretchen Richie isn't the sort of vocalist who goes all out. The title of one of the many vintage pop standards included on her latest CD pretty much sums up the tone of her sales pitch: "Nice'n'Easy".Quietly carving out a niche between cabaret and jazz, Richie sounds perfectly content to let a composer's work speak for itself. Her interpretations are free of glib embellishments or melismatic flourishes, and the inclusion of some seldom heard verses further underscore Richie's intention to give songwriters their due. She's joined by three like-minded musicians-pianist (and husband) Randy Richie, bassist Bill Hones, and drummer Howard Kadison-who tunefully commute between uncluttered swing ("Let's Fall in Love" and "Close Your Eyes") and dreamy balladry ("You Go to My Head" and "Fools Rush In"). In between these stops, Richie and company pause to conjure darker moods with soulful reprises of "But Not for Me", "In the Wee Small Hours" and "Nobody's Heart," each rendered, again, without fuss or muss. It's not hard to imagine Richie performing these songs for a clucking brunch crowd and nearly silencing the room with her unforced delivery and first-rate repertoire. No doubt many listeners will be reminded of more distinctive and artful interpretations as Richie moves through her songbook, but no matter. These recitals have a charm of their own."-Mike Joyce, The Washington Post, July 2002 "Gretchen really knows how to ...

You Tell Me songs
$20.25 Today, there is a continuing internationalization of the music as more tangibly advanced by musicians from all over the world getting together to solidify and advance the jazz tradition. KLAUS SUONSAARI learned from that tradition and eventually crossed the Atlantic to first study, and then become an active contributor to the music as a sideman and, now as a leader-composer-arranger. His story illustrates the power of jazz to reach out and capture one's heart and mind, no matter where the music is heard. Born in Helsinki, Finland on November 7, 1959, Klaus found himself part of a musical family. "My mother played piano, my father sang in the choir and my sister was an excellent classical pianist and church organist, but none of them pursued music as a profession," is the way he describes it. Klaus began classical piano lessons at age 6, switching to his main instrument at 14. "There was always a lot of music at home," he remembers. "My parents had Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald records and I learned a lot of standards by listening to them." In the summer of 1974, he attented the Helsinki Pop/Jazz Conservatory summer program and received his first formal lessons. He was also exposed to earlier drum masters such as Baby Dodds and Big Sid Catlett. "The summer program was a great inspiration to me", he relates. "I started checking out Kenny Clarke, Papa Jo Jones, Max Roach, Philly Joe Jones and Art Blakey in order to learn my instrument and tradition." Today he still includes these artists as main influences: "Kenny Clarke for his sound and conception; Max Roach for melody and for always playing the right thing at the right time; Philly Joe Jones for melody and hard swing: Art Blakey for feeling and ...
