Beatnik is a hip hop group that consists of two members, Albert Ransom aka "Coppatone", and Lateef Watkins aka "Monk", who grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York. Currently, Beatnik has just finished their debut album entitled "Open" which is now being released. The album is a stepping stone that will introduce Coppatone Productions and Beatnik to the public.In 1997 Coppatone, Monk and Alexander Ransom aka "Z", decided to take their hobby to the next level and formed a group called "Trifecta". They recorded a demo at a local recording studio but Coppatone wasn't pleased with the quality of the CD that he just spent alot of time and money on, so he decided to piece together his own studio. For about two years Trifecta spent their time writing and recording songs with other local acts while Coppatone did most of the production gaining experience every step of the way. From 1999 to 2001 Trifecta grew distant, only getting together occasionally to cut a track. In March 2001 Coppatone released a compilation album called, "Coppatone Presents: The Big Bang Theory" which contained some of the songs previously recorded by Trifecta. That album went on to sell quite a few copies and gave them a much larger fan base. On March 29, 2001 Coppatone Productions was officially established as a business. In December of 2001 Coppatone held a meeting at his house with Monk and Z, to see if they wanted to get together to record an album and start from scratch with new material, new beats, experience, and a new name.
