Andrea Wollstadt and Rob Duquette make up the funky-folk-pop duo. Rob sings and plays guitar, Andrea sings and plays sax, flute and keyboards. They make up a unique sound all their own, and they incorporate many styles of music into their original material. The couple had their wedding ceremony the same month as their first CD release, back in late 2000. Shortly thereafter, they embarked on a national tour, performing in cities such as New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Cleveland and many others. New York City's "The Village Voice" called their first CD: "Amazing." Formerly a part of the Cambridge and Boston acoustic scene, they began recording their new CD shortly after renovating their new home in Southern Maine. "Cactus Highway is the most rare of acoustic acts, they are a duo of true sophistication who merge folk, pop, jazz in flowing, cool, unpretentious ways." (The Boston Herald). They've preformed with such artists as Aztec Two Step, Catie Curtis, Roy Bookbinder, Greg Greenway, David Massengill, etc,. Their music has been played on radio worldwide. "This Talented duo has a new release out, they are super savvy players, somewhat of a hybrid folk-jazz, No doubt excellent." --Chris Darling, Us Folk WMPG, Portland, Maine. Nothing Pure music CDs
$16.45 John McVey isn't going anywhere, so you might as well latch onto his introspective sound now before he grows more popular and less willing to illuminate his inner self. Here is a comforting set out of Utah Valley, an outtake from the expanding Rocky Mountain acoustic scene and a step toward the national contemporary folk plane. McVey is a formidable singer/songwriter who plainly acknowledges the world's tendency not to resemble fairy tales. Several tracks are an outward characterization of the poet's personality. "Distracted" appeared on a religious compilation album in 1999 but broadly tackles any dream and the obstacles that cloud your vision en route to finding it. While listening to the winning ballad "Fall for You," you may have to pop the CD out and check the label to be sure you aren't listening to Their Greatest Hits by the Eagles. "Incognito" rides with the guts of a biker gang member scanning the avenue for where he wants to make trouble next. "Already Broken" takes an up-tempo turn from the rest of the album, driving a Wallflowers-esque melody right to your brain. With an ethereal hook in the chorus, "Simple" fades the record into the starlight that seems to have inspired McVey's continual pleas. One question, John: Why would you banish your cover of "Tell Me Something Good" as a hidden track, other than the fact that it's a little too bluesy to fit the rest of Jigsaw? Answer? Perhaps because it's like finding ...
| | Susan Kay Wyatt Something Sacred Here CD (2003)
Nothing Pure songs
$17.09 Something Sacred Here, Susan Kay Wyatt's first release, is a through-composed journey of soothing sounds that takes the listener down a path to connect with spirit. Because of the spoken word or "conversation with God" at the beginning of each song, it is ultimately a "concept" CD. "So many people, who spend a lot of time in their car, especially in these challenging times, tell me it is the perfect way to get centered and ready to face the world", Susan Kay says. "They actually tell me that they wear this CD out playing it over and over, or they give their copy to someone else and have to order another copy." "I always considered this body of work for beginner spiritual students who are seeking the truth about who they are. But I have been told it still rings true for those far down their spiritual path who have one of those days that they need a little reminder of the truth of who they are. Every time I hear someone tell me that, I give it another listen myself and I smile at how much I need reminded too."Featured on this CD is Ming Freeman, keyboard and pianist, ...
| | Dave Balson Talk Is Sheep CD (2005)
Nothing Pure album
$9.85 The story is fairly common; from earliest memory, the drive to be a musician is undeniable. Music is a calling, not a choice, and throughout childhood there are the endless hours of study and practice, with the goal of one day becoming a professional performer. This however, is not the story of Dave Balson. In fact there is nothing common about Dave, his music, or his career.Dave was well into his teen years before he discovered music - and in reality, it was a music teacher who discovered Dave. While at school in California, Dave was sitting in the room of a classmate, singing "Friend of the Devil," when the music teacher walked by, heard him singing, liked what he heard, and suggested to Dave that he perform the song for the school. Dave had always been a big music fan, but had never, until that moment, considered ...

| | Cannata Mysterium Magnum CD (2006)
Nothing Pure album
$13.69 USE âPLAY ALL SONGS HI FI: BROADBANDâ FOR BEST QUALITYREVIEW FROM "DPRP" Dutch Progressive Rock Page 9 of 10 !American-based singer/song-writer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff Cannata has enjoyed a long, if slightly sporadic, career. In the early days of the art rock movement, he formed the ProgRock band, Jasper Wrath which featured James Christian (House Of Lords). Signed to MGM Records, and with their first LP receiving rave reviews, they toured extensively before the oft-quoted 'musical differences' led to the band splitting in 1976.In the 30 years that have followed, Jeff's output has run to just four albums under the Arc Angel or Cannata banners. The most recent, Tamorok came out on the Atenzia label in 2002 and stands as probably my all-time favourite progressive AOR album. Huge melodies, beautifully crafted songs and Jeff's fantastic vocals make this addictive listening. However, when I saw that he has waited just four years to produce the follow-up, I was at the front of the queue.Mysterium Magnum, is a real tour-de-force that manages to draw together many of the elements from Jeff's career to date. Best described as a blend of ProgRock, AOR and melodic hard rock - this has barely been off my CD player for the past few weeks - and yet still manages to unveil new charms to me on each play! If you like your rock to encapsulate memorable hooks, great musicianship, progressive arrangements, thoughtful lyrics, and a great mix of atmosphere and energy, then you have come to the right place. Superbly played and written, there are plenty of classic 70's type arrangements but with an impressively modern feel to it all. Jeff plays a good amount of the instruments here, but there are more than a dozen guest musicians mentioned in the credits. The opener Spirit of the Four Winds has a wonderfully catchy melody, as well as an assortment of keyboard and synth textures from both Jeff and Jay Rowe. I'm a just a sucker for the catchy, delicate hard rock melody that is the focus for King Of The Mountain (think Winger), or the more ballsy hooks that dominate Wanted: ...
