Buddy Merrill visited Hawaii with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra in 1955 . While in Hawaii he became "in tune"with the Hawaiian style of playing the steel guitar.In this album Buddy features some of the great standardsongs, "Trade Winds" written by Clif Friend and CharlieTobias, and "Under A Coconut Tree" which he co-wrote with Curtis Ramsey and George Thow.The album also introduces new Hawaiian songs,"Blue Paradise" and "On Rainbow Island" which Buddy co-wrote with Marian McGuire, and "Winds Of The Sea" co-written with Scott Seely who also wrote, "Tahitian Sunset" arranged by Buddy Merrill. Antaeus, born and reared in Greece, immigrated to the United States at age 17. In 1986 he graduated from California State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Industry. During the 1992 Winter Music Conference, Antaeus took home the "Best Disc-Jockey in Los Angeles" award. That year he also became a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the governing party for the GRAMMY awards. Since 1986, Antaeus has been involved in recording, remixing, or producing for a diverse selection of artists such as Young M.C., Falco, Lonnie Gordon, Malcolm McLaren, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, The Rolling Stones, The Boys, Herbert Gronemeyer, and Earth Wind & Fire. The second U.S. release by the Swedish duo Club 8 is more of the same kind of floaty dream pop that predominated on their self-titled American debut. Only this time, the floaty/dreamy aspects are emphasized, largely to the exclusion of the Saint Etienne-like electronic dance pop that lurked around the edges of the first album. Multi-instrumentalist Johan Angergard doesn't forgo his synths and drum machines entirely ("The Chance I Deserve," right down to its processed vocals, is pure late-'70s Eurodisco), but the songs are mostly based on subtle layers of acoustic guitars, hand percussion, and rubbery, surprisingly melodic electric bass. However, the real appeal of the album comes from Karolina Komstedt's pillow-soft, slightly accented vocals, which have the kitschy allure of Claudine Longet, only with better enunciation and much less tendency to go off-key. ...
