WEST AFRICAN HIGHLIFE BANDThe West African Highlife Band brings together an all-star group of distinguished West African music veterans for a unique celebration of the incomparable West African highlife and 'Palmwine' dance hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Highlife music ruled the West African club scene before the disco era, and this special band pays tribute to its pioneers, with the lilting harmonies and infectious rhythms that motivated the feet of a generation of African youth. The atmosphere is intense and intoxicating as featured musicians Babá Ken Okulolo, Soji Odukogbe, Rasaki Aladokun, Pope Flyne, Nii Armah Hammond, and Lemi Barrow put out their rare and beautiful music.Baba Ken Okulolo, first seen in the U.S. with King Sunny Ade's African Beats, was five times named Nigeria's top bassist. A modern musician with deep roots in Nigerian traditional music, Baba Ken also leads the Afrobeat band KOTOJA, and the acoustic folk group The NIGERIAN BROTHERS.Contact: Babá Ken or Jackie Wilson @ Ph: 510. 655.3357 www.AfricanMusicSource.com Email: KAOkulolo@aol.com Salute To Highlife Pioneers Music West African Highlife Band Salute To Highlife Pioneers Songs | 1. | Mama Dey For Kumba |

But these performances by father and son, along with the other four members of the ensemble, transcend language to reach pure emotion. It can be as affecting as singer Shahram ...

Salute To Highlife Pioneers album
$14.79 This is the debut recording by the versatile Copper Box. Although three of its members recorded together previously in the polka-infused K!CK, this is a new band with a broader musical scope than its former incarnation. Fronted by accordion ace Danny Jerebek and vocalist Michelle Jerabek, Copper Box glides through a variety of styles, touching on Tex-Mex, Cajun, country, rock, and, of course, polka. To their credit, the members of this band refuse to let any of their fleeting musical fancies dictate who and what they are. Popular music has always been enriched and ultimately strengthened when it allows outside influences to accent its customary and all too often stagnant formula. Copper Box specializes in precisely that -- introducing unconventional but colorful elements into its songs without regard to what record label A&R experts, radio programmers, and talent scouts might advise. It could be argued that only bandmembers who create music for the sheer joy of it would even think of combining so many of their collective musical interests when recording their inaugural release. And while this album brims with stylistic changes, the songs complement one another nicely. Danny Jerebek's accordion playing is the band's principal unifying element, but Michelle Jerabek's sweet and sultry voice ...

| | John Stewart California Bloodlines CD (1989) (Import) United Kingdom
Salute To Highlife Pioneers music CDs
$15.65 Q (May 2002, p.136) - 4 out of 5 stars - "...Stands proud as one of coutry-rock's crowning glories--a hugely romantic, irony-free celebration of America's topography and people..."
Such a genuine record, recorded with little pomp, and yet every track is special. It is a very even list of sitting on a porch with guitar songs. Pop with folk and country overtones with the beautiful voice of Stewart in effortless command. This, after all, is the man who wrote "Daydream Believer" for the Monkees and nearly a quarter of a century later was in the pop charts duetting with Stevie Nicks on "Gold." In between he released a number of gentle country rock albums of which this is the star turn. The See For Miles reissue of CALIFORNIA BLOODLINES has bonus tracks. Underrated both as a songwriter and as a fine singer.
Cult artist John Stewart first came too the attention of the public when his folk group The Cumberland Three issued their pair of acclaimed concept albums featuring songs of the American Civil War...shortly afterward, in 1961, he joined their mentors, the Kingston trio, leading them through changes in style and continued hit singles and albums in the volatile period 1961-67....as the British Invasion and rock in general ate into their audience, the Trio slowly ran down operations, as John wrote songs for outside acts; 'Daydream Believer' by The Monkees being a worldwide smash hit in 1967.Wonderfully re-mastered in top Revola syle and with lovely packaging. A must for all fans of acoustic, roots music ...
