| | Marylea Lueth Outside Chance CD Marylea Lueth Discography of CDs
Hey Folks! This CD marks my first journey into some long overdue musical self-expression. I started playing guitar when i was 13, and since then, no matter what life has served up to me, i've always had a guitar with me. I have gone from social work to truck driving, with lots of jobs in between; I am now a teacher in Central Florida. The songs on "Outside Chance" are a reflection of those experiences, or those of folks i've met along the way. We all have stories to tell. The greatest lesson i've ever learned was that while our experiences may be similar, we all have our own unique expressions and ways of telling those stories. I hope you enjoy the way i've told mine on this CD.Yours,Marylea Outside Chance Music | Category | Folk Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7156932 | | Catalog number | 82464 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jul 05, 2005 |

$12.95 MERMAID AVENUE is a collection of previously unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics exhumed from the Woody Guthrie Archives and set to music by Billy Bragg and Wilco at the invitation of Guthrie's daughter Nora.
MERMAID AVENUE was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Woody Guthrie's gift to the world of music cannot be overstated. His songwriting helped to define folk music as we know it, as an instrument not only of musical creation, but of social change. Among those troubadours who carry on his tradition, England's Billy Bragg stands proud, for his musical talent and his social awareness alike. In 1995, Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter, approached Bragg to ...

Outside Chance songs
$9.85 Kenni & Co, San Francisco's all-acoustic Americana/contemporary folk quartet, has just released it's second album, Shine Shine Shine. "Back at Your Father's House," the first single from the album, is already in garageband.com's all-time top 10 best female vocals, top 10 best lyrics, and top 25 songs in the Americana category. Reviewers have been asked to answer the age-old "sounds like" question, and the answers are all over the map--Joan Baez, Sheryl Crow, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Nicks, Norah Jones, June Carter--but there is no doubt that they like what they hear. "These are the kind of vocals that make me wonder how record labels choose who to sign. This girl's voice is like liquid silver. Absolutely beautiful. Hypnotic." (garageband.com)Maybe listeners hear the voices of their favorite musical storytellers in Kenni's songs because Kenni works hard to be a storyteller. "Whether it's fictional or not, if it's a good story, if the emotions in it are real, the performance takes care of itself." Kenni puts the song first, the words and music together creating a world unto itself. Kenni writes songs that speak to listeners. And listeners speak back. . . and a conversation is born.Another album cut from Shine Shine Shine--"You Did a Number on Me"--just won an award in Billboard Magazine's national songwriting contest, in the jazz category. This is only the most recent in a string of songwriting accolades that began at Berklee School of Music in Boston, where Kenni won songwriting awards and a Songwriting Department scholarship. Since then, she has taken an award in the Eudora Welty Songwriting Contest, had songs placed in two independent films, and had a song pitched to Alison Krauss."I'm still finding myself as a writer," Kenni says. Not surprising, when she feels the pull of so many different influences: the sweet-voiced intimacy and raw emotion of singer-songwriter-storytellers like Joni Mitchell and Jonatha Brooke; the harmonic sophistication and lyrical precision of American songbook writers like Cole Porter and Hoagie Carmichael; and the rootsy accessibility and multi part harmonies of newgrass and trad country. What all the songs have in common is that "lyrics here are real life stories... pieces of life pulled into sound, and it is in this that [Kenni] shines brightest. You feel as if you've lived each story yourself, and care just as much about it... each piece carries its own personality, sorrow, and hope." (Fly Magazine)Between growing up in and returning home to California, Kenni paid dues on Boston's thriving folk scene, opening for singer-songwriters like Patty Griffin, Jonatha Brooke, Patty Larkin, and Livingston Taylor as half of duo Back to Back. Kenni arrived in San Francisco in 1997 with her guitar and a pocketful of songs. She collected her band over a patience-testing five years, playing in Bay Area clubs, bars, and ...
| | Linda M Smith Artemisia CD (2006)
Outside Chance album
$17.09 About Linda’s introduction to Artemisia.I became acquainted with the 17th Italian century painter Artemisia Gentleschi (1593-1653) 1998. My brief introduction to her story and her work imprinted itself in my mind and little did I know that this first encounter was just a glimpse of what was yet to come.In 2002 I began to delve deeply into this amazing woman’s life and was awestruck and inspired by her talent as an artist and her relentless courage to be “Artemisia.” Consequently I felt driven to write songs about this enigmatic painter. The album focuses on the following areas: her relationship with her father, renown artist, Orazio Gentleschi; her father’s partner Agostino Tassi, who violated Artemisia at age 17; and later, an arranged marriage to Pietro Stiatessi; her role as a mother and of course her paintings.Artemisia captured the intense emotions of her favored subjects. She related closely to the mythological and Biblical heroines she painted for they, like herself, had to fiercely fight for independence and justice in a male dominated world.Artemisia’s struggles and successes mirror many of my own life experiences. My journey with Artemisia has helped me confront my demons and has given me the courage to forgive and move forward in life. Old Town School of Folk Music DescriptionLinda M. Smith, Chicago based singer-songwriter and co-producer of “Grapes of Wrath - A Folk Opera” debuts her most recent work about 17th century Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi. Smith’s passionate and soulful style weaves poetry and music to communicate the intriguing life story of the best known female artist in western art history before the modern era.Smith also presents a montage of Artemisia’s paintings which serve as a visually captivating backdrop during the performance. The combined mediums of music and art tell a compelling story of struggle, perseverance and triumph of this enigmatic painter.About Linda M. SmithLinda M. Smith’s singer-songwriter talents ...
