50% OF ALL PROCEEDS GO TO CHARITY (WWW.SAVEDARFUR.ORG). HELP STOP GENOCIDE.A native son of the Pacific Northwest, Alexipharmic had a love for life and music since his first day out of the womb. Musically influenced by everything under the sun, from Hendrix to Mahler and Davis to Rakim, Alexipharmic spent his childhood in the libraries of the schools where his mother taught, learning about Buddhism and the ongoing struggles of Rwanda, the Sudanese, and the American homeless. This upbringing molded a man called to duty: to empower, inform, and be a voice for the voiceless. When Alexipharmic first heard 2Pac’s “Keep Ya Head Up” at age nine, he knew what form his mission would take: using music to help make a better world. Shortly after, piles of spiral-bound notebooks filled with lyrics littered the floor of both of his parent’s homes. Turning in homework at school was difficult and awkward, as almost every piece of paper had hasty lyrics or undelivered love notes scribbled on the back. A few years later, Alexipharmic began recording his songs over beats given to him free of charge, using an old camcorder with the lens cap on and rapping in an old coat closet. Out of these early sessions came a library of songs. While in college, Alexipharmic recorded his first-full length album at age 20. It was his first time in a studio, and he slept on the studio's floor for two weeks to save money to record the album. The budget for the recording was $75. The product of these sessions was Run, a powerful 14-track album that served as a window to Alexipharmic’s growing world view. Songs ranged from the politically charged “Fox News,” to the more down tempo “Summer.” The climax of the album is the title track, where the narrator runs back through time, intervening in decisive moments in the history of the world. The song is a microcosm of the whole album, capturing the spirit, attitude, and energy of the whole. Not ready to rest after releasing Run, Alexipharmic set his sights higher by organizing a national benefit tour. The Save Darfur Tour launched in January of 2007 and featured the Visionaries, Vakill, Grayskul, Sleep, Lightheaded, Sweatshop Union, CasOne, Freestyle, and label mate Abadawn along with Alexipharmic to raise awareness for the victims of the genocide in Darfur. Alexipharmic is currently finishing up his next album, American Beauty. It will be released in Fall 2008 on Elephant Memories Records. | | Nas Illmatic CD (1994)
Run CD music
$6.09 Out of a seemingly endless array of hip hop albums, every now and again something fresh and powerful rises to the top of the pile. Hailing from the Queensbridge Housing Projects in Long Island City (home to Marley Marl among others), 20-year old Nasir "Nas" Jones is less concerned with being an impersonator than with being an originator, bypassing adolescent fantasies and B-boy braggadocio in favor of jazzy beats, rap noir realism and new answers to urban despair.
ILLMATIC is his story, a cautionary tale of the inner-city streets, and as Nas makes plain on his opener, "The Genesis," this is what he does, with ...

$11.39 "Umbrella Man leaves no stone unturned. Scott Albert Johnson's debut mixes blues, rock, folk and jazz, unified by first-rate harmonica playing." (Maureen Palli, Relix )"Scott Albert Johnson is a harmonica player of the highest class, and a fine and versatile singer and songwriter as well. He has been blessed with a beautiful, clear and unique voice, and his harp playing varies between steaming blues solos, Toots Thielemans-like jazzy stuff, and more subtle playing. His style intermingles pop, jazz and roots music and, of course, blues influences." (Rootstime [Belgium])"Scott Albert Johnson's unique sound is irresistible and virtuosic in its breadth. Umbrella Man is a work of rare beauty and innovation. Rich, bluesy, and played with a heartfelt passion for the musical craft, his songs come as a refreshing challenge to a scene stifled by genre." (Tuesday Magazine)"Scott Albert Johnson is a virtuoso harmonica player. But he's also an accomplished singer and songwriter, as his debut CD Umbrella Man undeniably proves... Johnson's musical versatility is on prominent display on Umbrella Man, a disc that mixes blues, rock, folk and jazz into a varied and eclectic stew."(Carey Miller, [Jackson, MS] Clarion-Ledger)"On Umbrella Man , Scott Albert Johnson displays the confidence of a seasoned musician. With never a dull moment, the album takes the listener on a ride. It has taken Johnson three years to bring Umbrella Man to fruition. It has definitely been worth the wait."(Andi Agnew, Jackson Free Press)"Umbrella Man is a frighteningly solid Southern rock jam. Scott Albert Johnson's harp and mojo are strong medicine."(Herman Snell, music editor, Jackson Free Press)"Umbrella Man is a moving, class act. Every track will grab you and take you on a rockin', moving, headbobbing, toetapping, harmonic journey."(Victor Jones, Georgia Improper)Songwriter, ...
