| | Heidi Swan Plain Words CD Heidi Swan Discography of CDs
True to the tradition of Indie singer-songwriter-performers,Heidi Swan, has been stunning audiences from Montana to Salt Lake, and from Elko through the Pacific Northwest. Heidi Swan alternates between the intimacy of solo shows when it's Heidi and her keyboard, the musical introspection of her duo performances, and the soulful, high energy rock of her eight-piece band called Soul Decision. Original material, and 'covers' the way they should have been done in the first place, are all part of the Heidi Swan experience. There's Rock, R&B, Blues, a smattering of jazz and, at times, a hole torn through your heart. Heidi's a story teller, and the stories are real.Growing up in Whitehall, Montana (look under towns too small to show up in your atlas), Heidi has been an avid music enthusiast since her youth. From a small town background, Heidi grew up with big dreams, and a big voice and talent to make those dreams come true. Heidi has an innate songwriting ability and an overwhelming drive to make music that matters. But Heidi didn't grow up in a thriving music scene like Seattle or Minneapolis or Austin - maybe that's why her debut CD,simply called "Plain Words", sounds so different. "Plain Words" isn't canned or packaged or slick. In fact, some of the songs are scary because the emotion is so bare-naked. Like Joni Mitchell, Heidi Swan plays by ear. Like Jackson Browne, her whole heart's in every single song. And like pneumonia, her first release has an infectious groove that will kick your ass!Because Heidi's base of operations is in Montana, she's left her mark in the best of Montana's classic rock clubs, coffee houses, jazz clubs and festivals. She's rocked out at the infamous LaHood Park in Cardwell, MT and the Lighthouse Festival on the coast of Washington. She's let her soul bleed in places like Big Fork's Marina Cay and at a special performance at the Olympics in Salt Lake. Heidi was a featured act for the annual Butte Jazz SOciety Music Festival - truly an honor for a rocker. She's sat in often with the well-known "Mambo Kings", and several band members paid her back by playing on her first album, including bassist Dave Heidt, formerly with Canada's Victory Club, who also produced and recorded "Plain Words." Steve Wendell, talent buyer for "Rockin the Rockies," the three-day Montana music festival, calls Heidi " A unique voice. A grown-up woman with heartfelt songs in an era of paint-by-number teen groups." Who's Heidi Swan? She's a soul-stripper, pushing when the sign says pull, writing songs when everyone else is practicing scales, creating original music that matters, and making an impact where ever her dreams carry her. "There's nothing plain about the feelings- saturated "Plain Words," says Heidi Swan Project bass player Jock Holmes. "The CD is Heidi's diary."This Montana State University graduate was a teacher once, but realized music was a stronger calling and has invested her all into her music, building a studio with keyboards, a full sound system, and recording gear, she's also independently financed her HoZone Production company and clothing line which you'll find offered at her live shows and on her website. | | Lenny McDaniel Tired Angels CD (1998)
Plain Words music CDs
$17.69 Lenny McDaniel has come full circle. After 12 years working in Los Angeles with the likes of Stephen Stills, Dwight Yoakam, Dr. John, and John Mayall, he has established himself as one of the most compelling singer/song writers and instrumentalists in his native New Orleans, the city famous for rhythm and blues, jazz and gospel. Tired Angels, his third solo CD, is an exuberant, finely crafted collection of songs, featuring McDaniel's vocals, guitar and piano work with bassist Doug Therrien and drummers Allyn Robinson and Mike Barras. Therrien and Robinson have worked together for several years backing blues guitarist Tab Benoit, and lock into a mean groove effortlessly. Robinson is an old, pre-L.A. cohort of McDaniel's, having worked with some of his early New Orleans bands as well as such notables as Luther Kent, and he was a member of Wayne Cochran's C.C. Riders when Jaco Pastorious held the bass chair.Barras frequently backs McDaniel as part of his current live band, and has worked with the contemporary blues group Stavin' Chain and the rock band Beaten Path. Backup vocals were contributed by Beth McKee, formerly of Evangeline, and Janet Lynn, one of New Orleans' finest blue-eyed soul singers, currently breaking out of the trenches of Bourbon Street. The music harks back to a time when the line between rock and r&b was a thin one, and you didn't worry about formulas-you played and sang what you felt. McDaniel reaches back to his roots to address the love and heartache, the violence and paranoia of contemporary life with both irony and compassion. From the churchy choruses ...

Plain Words songs
$14.79 Some artists convey an intangible quality one can only describe as having "it." Serenity is such an artist. With over two hundred songs under her belt, Serenity is the rare chanteuse who does it all. As a singer/songwriter, musician, and leader of the group Serenity Blues, Serenity manages to release an untapped reservoir of emotion in her material while evoking the skills of such powerhouse luminaries as Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, and Billie Holiday. Whether invoking her muse in the styles of funk, blues, rock, or torch ballads, her confessional, passionate style resonates throughout all eight tracks of her new release, supplemented by two songs from her original demo. Ably backed and taken to new heights by a group of seasoned studio professionals on her most recent CD, Serenity's material is allowed to shine in a new light heretofore only glimpsed at in her solo demo recordings. Versions of previously recorded songs resonate with lush instrumentation, while previously unrecorded tracks strike first with hard charging guitars and drums which provide a backdrop for Serenity to belt out her heartfelt lyrics about relationships, love and betrayal. Serenity is truly a force of nature to be reckoned with. Her works contain shades of other artists, but like all true originals, ...
