| | Caroline Horn In The New World We Knew CD Caroline Horn Discography of CDs
"Caroline Horn is earthy and soulful - a gifted songwriter and musician with a rich, fluid voice and a real inspiration."-Rosanne CashCaroline Horn is tapped into things - things we all experience. Even though she writes about herself and people she has come across, it's inevitable that in one of her songs or another she seems to be singing about you. It's that well-honed edge of insight in her lyrics that makes her music feel so personal. Passionate. Powerful. How did Performing Songwriter Magazine put it? "Whether it's physical, emotional, or sexual, [Horn's] not afraid to bare the raw nerve."That keen intensity has made people sit up and take notice. In addition to scooping up awards from a variety of song contests, Horn has recorded and shared the stage with Roberta Flack, Diane Schuur, Philip Glass, The Story, Loudon Wainright III, Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) and Christine Lavin. She has also taught songwriting with Rosanne Cash. Most recently, her music was featured in the hit HBO series, Sex and the City. The 12 songs on Horn's newest release, The World We Knew, move between folk, rock, and pop to span an emotional spectrum. She can be delicate and vulnerable or harsh and enraged, moody or sweetly reflective. Complimenting her expressive alto vocals are performances by such stellar musicians as Shawn Pelton (drummer for the Saturday Night Live band, Shawn Colvin, Celine Dion), Kerryn Tolhurst (guitarist for The Dingoes, Bruce Henderson), Mark Epstein (bassist for Johnny Winter), Jeff Pevar (guitarist for Marc Cohn, David Crosby, Rickie Lee Jones), Valerie Vigoda (violinist for Cyndi Lauper, Joe Jackson), and Bashiri Johnson (percussionist for Miles Davis, Whitney Houston).A double-threat with pen in hand, Horn not only writes music but also writes about music. You may have seen her recent journalistic pieces in Billboard and Martha Stewart Living. Listen and you, too, will be passionate about The World. Caroline Horn's The World We Knew. In The New World We Knew CD music
$16.45 "Smooth and fluid guitar playing dominates Dan's 2nd CD. Ashley Bird Cousins is a celebration of the guitar heroes of the 60's(Santana, Clapton, Jeff Beck). It's refreshing to hear an instrumental CD with innovative, yet tasteful guitar work." Brian Bullen, Aerial Flipout Records-"Serious guitar riffing going on over icy-cool rhythms."Kevin Weirzbicki-Campus CirclePlease give a listen to multi-instrumentalist Dan Cox and his second CD offering: 'Ashley Bird Cousins'. This is the definition of Do It Yourself technology as Dan plays all instruments, recorded, mastered, produced and even packaged his CD from his home recording studio."I did use Larry, my beloved drum machine...but he does have soul."When Dan was in a band in the late 60's/early 70's he met through a fellow band mate, Ashley Bird Cousins. She had cerebral palsy along with many other problems. What astonished everyone who came into contact with Ashley was her happy, always laughing disposition. "She literally brightened ...
| | Jon Shain Home Before Long CD (2005)
In The New World We Knew music CDs
$17.09 Home Before Long is Jon's newest release. Produced by Dave Mattacks and Tom Dube, this CD was recorded in Cambridge, MA this past year and features the Jon Shain Trio with Dave Mattacks and special guest Duke Levine. Nine new Shain originals shine along with a gorgeous new arrangement of the traditional "Pretty Peggy-O". Release date to CDbaby: June 18, 2005. Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who's been turning heads for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his evolved musical style-combining improvised piedmont blues with bluegrass, swing, and ragtime. In April 2005, Shain released his fourth solo album, Home Before Long. Recorded in Cambridge, MA and produced by legendary British drummer Dave Mattacks and Boston studio wiz Tom Dube, the music of Home Before Long ranges from straight up country blues and love-lorn ballads to raucous roots-rock. Also produced by Mattacks and Dube is Shain's previous release, No Tag, No Tail Light. Mattacks (whose studio drumming credits include albums with Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Richard Thompson) chose Shain's, No Tag, No Tail Light, for his first stint in the producer's chair. Shain recorded both albums with his band, the John Shain Trio. Shain's trio partners include FJ Ventre on upright bass and vocals, John Currie on dobro and guitar, and frequent guest Bill Newton on harmonica.Attending Duke University in the late 80s, Shain was a student of American history with a dedicated interest in southern musical traditions. This interest led him to a gig with piedmont blues legend Richard "Big Boy" Henry. After a short apprenticeship in the blues world, Shain ...
