| | Paula Zeitlin Walk A Little Slower CD Paula Zeitlin Discography of CDs
Jazz violinist Paula Zeitlin is a veteran of the Boston music scene, Berklee College of Music alumna, and teacher of jazz and blues improvisation. She is a founding member of the Underground Jazz String Quartet and recorded her last album NOW'S THE TIME with the popular western swing band Western Omelet, with whom she toured during the nineties. A versatile violinist, Zeitlin's experience in classical, folk and bluegrass groups can be heard influencing the jazz tunes and originals on her debut cd as a leader, WALK A LITTLE SLOWER. "This is the first album released under Zeitlin's name, but it comes after a lifetime of music. The tunes are involved with mood and tone: the air and feel of each song's journey...And while jazz is the predominant genre, it would be hard to simply categorize the waltzes, sambas, Celtic-tinged aires and balladic explorations as modern jazz." Walk A Little Slower songs
$6.29 Released in 1973, Greatest Hits only sums up a handful of years of hitmaking for John Denver, but what years those were. Between 1971 and 1973, Denver actually didn't have that many hits, but they were songs that defined him -- "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Rocky Mountain High," and "Sunshine on My Shoulders." Those three songs, along with "Leaving on a Jet Plane" -- which he wrote but Peter, Paul & Mary made into a standard -- are all here, along with seven other early songs recorded between 1969 and 1973 that may not be familiar to the average casual fan, but all capture Denver's warm folk-pop at its best. There may be more hits on Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, but this collection is every bit as engaging as that record. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Daisy Chain With Me CD (2007)
Walk A Little Slower music CDs
$10.15 Daisy Chain's swift and rapid advancement in the Detroit music circuit was nothing short of phenomenal. Their influence, unique style, and significant impact on other artists have placed them in the forefront with the very best. The only exhortation in this letter is to increase the public's exposure to this truly great band. Although recorded in 1997, I assure you, that their sound is fresh and alive, and will help set a precedence in an international music revival. Let me give you some background on the band: All of the guys in the band hail from Berkeley, MI., a Detroit suburb notorious as a despot of conservatism. Inspired by pure passion and love of music, the right-wing tyranny of their home town did not dispirit them, but, drove them to an unduly obsession--a need to convey their ideals through their songs. Jerry Falwell will be repelled, but, Dostoevsky would glow with pride. Mingo, the band's bassist, has immense instrumental talent. Daisy Chain's promotional manager and comrade, Mitchell Hicks, commented on Mingo's exceptional musicianship, " Ming is the most versatile player around--I'd put him up against anyone--he's a genius--really.". Mingo has an uncanny adroitness for musical arrangement, as guitarist Steve will attest: "Its just unbelievable, that guy can take a two-chord progression and turn it into an orchestration--fuckin' unbelievable!". Zo, who is Mingo's cousin, is the band's percussionist, and an indefatigable driving force. Unmatched, with pounding synchronicity, he is the hardest working and most dedicated member. Mingo commented on his cousin's fanatical devotion to music: " If that cat could play in his sleep, he would.", further adding, " He came outta' the womb jammin'! I have never played with a drummer who took such unbridled interest in his performance, he is absolutely purgatorial to play with--he keep's you clean.". Steve is the guitarist and founder of the group, and has been playing with Mingo for years. Steve is the prime contributor of the rhythmic structure of the songs, and his mellow-sweetened voice greatly enhances the vocal harmonies. Lead singer Osco reflects back, "That guy handles himself both in the studio and on stage with Ghandi-like grace. He continues to prove that he is a creative and competent musician ...
| | Bennie Maupin Jewel In The Lotus CD (1974)
Walk A Little Slower songs
$15.05 Jazz -funk fans must have been taken aback when multi-instrumentalist and composer Bennie Maupin's Jewel in the Lotus was released by Manfred Eicher's ECM imprint in 1974. For starters, it sounded nothing like Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters recording, which had been released the year before to massive sales and of which Maupin had been such an integral part. Head Hunters has remained one of the most reliable sales entries in Columbia's jazz catalog into the 21st century. By contrast, Jewel in the Lotus sounded like an avant-garde jazz record, but it stood outside that hard-line camp, too, because of its open and purposeful melodies that favored composition and structured improvising over free blowing. Jazz after 1970 began to move in so many directions simultaneously it must have felt like it was tearing itself apart rather than giving birth to so many new and exciting musics. Considered carefully, however, ...
