| | Bob Stewart Touch Of Latin CD Bob Stewart Discography of CDs
"A Touch Of Latin" encompasses a commercial Latin-Jazz style with a strong emphasis on a Brazilian/Funk. This CD has a forward propulsion-and a feeling of controlled movement. The music remains rhythmically steady and has a "constant" which transforms it into something of its own. | | Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery CD (1960) SACD Hybrid
Touch Of Latin CD music
$15.19 This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
John "Wes" Montgomery taught himself to play at the age of nineteen and created a style as influential to jazz guitar as was Charlie Christian's to an earlier generation. Recorded in the early part of his solo career, THE INCREDIBLE JAZZ GUITAR OF WES MONTGOMERY defined standards for hard bop guitar which are as cogent today as they were in 1960.
The album jumps out with the quartet hustling through Sonny Rollins' "Airegin," where Wes performs his often imitated licks with grace and agility. His extended phrases, thematic development, harmonic and melodic embellishment come together in a formidable technique with a heavy swing. An impressive use of octaves and chords coupled with the rejection of a guitar pick in favor of his own thumb allowed ...
| | Mary Foster Conklin Crazy Eyes CD (1998)
Touch Of Latin music CDs
$15.19 The New York jazz press of the 1990s sometimes described Mary Foster Conklin as a "cabaret singer," but Crazy Eyes points to the fact that she's really more of a jazz-pop singer with occasional cabaret touches. The sort of campiness that has characterized a lot of cabaret recordings won't be found on this likable CD. Conklin is playful and entertaining on material ranging from "The Gentleman Is a Dope" to Duke Ellington's "I'm Gonna Go Fishin'" and Willie Dixon's "Dead Presidents," but she's not one to inundate us with the campy or the corny. Dexter Gordon's "Fried Bananas" (for which she embraces seldom heard lyrics by Anne Phillips) is outright bebop, and there's no denying that the piano trio backing Conklin (pianist Bill Mays, bassist Jon Burr and drummer Terry Clarke) is very much a jazz trio. One of the most interesting selections on Crazy Eyes is "How Can I Be Sure" -- originally a pop-rock hit for the Rascals in 1967, the tune gets an unlikely post-bop makeover. Generally decent and offering some pleasant surprises, Crazy Eyes indicated that Conklin was someone jazz fans should keep an eye on. ~ Alex Henderson
SPRING 2006 UPDATE: Mary has finished her third recording, a tribute to the ...

| | Lee Waterman Jazz Caliente CD (2001)
Touch Of Latin CD music
$13.69 Lee Waterman's recently released CD, Jazz Caliente, reflects the strong Afro-Cuban and Brazilian influences in the group's jazz-based music. All the band members are terrific ensemble players and brilliant soloists. Their repertoire includes many of Lee's original compositions, as well his own arrangements of some of the great Latin and Jazz standards. The new release is receiving considerable air play, both nationally and in Northern California. Jazz Steps San Francisco Magazine named it one of the best new Bay-Areajazz releases of 2001. Here are some comments from the media: "Lee has a personable style that exudes the warmth of Wes Montgomery. He skillfully creates melodic statements that dart in and out of a variety of rhythmic contexts. | | Gabriel Katona Rumors Have It CD (2004)
Touch Of Latin music CDs
$14.79 When Gabe Katona was still too young to get into nightclubs, he paid for a fake ID so he could begin his career as a musician. But, he didn't have a portable keyboard. For Katona the solution was simple. He rented a school saxophone and started playing and singing in the local Los Angeles clubs to earn the money he needed. This resourcefulness carried him from the clubs of L.A. to playing on smash hit records with some of the hottest artists of the seventies and eighties and, to the present day, as one of Nashville's cutting edge producers. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Katona began studying classical piano in Miami at age ten. When he was in junior high school, his family moved to Los Angeles. There, he was recruited by a number of jazz, pop, and R&B outfits, eventually playing in five different bands at one time. Having launched his career while still in high school, he seamlessly crossed into the world of professional music by recording with a major Motown act, which opened the door to a songwriter deal with Motown's Jobete Publishing. While at Motown, he wrote with Mike Campbell, and penned and played on recordings by ...
