| | Janet Metzger So Many Stars CD Janet Metzger Discography of CDs
"Listening to Janet Metzger is like listening to a favorite jazz recording...or a good friend. Her friendly charisma seduces you immediately and her throaty voice, witty stories and slightly saucy charm complement her musical abilities." Robin Bennett, The ChampionAn actress and singer, Janet brings a uniquely intelligent style to soulful renderings of standards, story songs and swing hits, creating a unique blend of jazz and cabaret. She counts among her many influences Carmen McRae, Judy Garland, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra and...Carol Burnett. Janet was born in Pittsburgh, a hotbed of jazz at the time. As a child, there was always a radio playing in the house (KDKA), and her parents loved to dance, so they bought all the pop hits. On television she watched "The Hit Parade" and "Name That Tune." When other friends were playing with dolls, Janet was playing "Name That Tune." She set up a record player in the back yard and charged the other kids a few pennies to play. That first entrepreneurial effort helped her become a successful independent musician! Her other great pastime was make-believe, and since 1980 she has made a living in the Atlanta area as an actress on stage, television and radio. For 5 years Janet was the promos announcer on CNN, Headline News and CNN International. Not one to be pigeonholed, Janet appeared on two episodes of Blue Collar TV with the Van Sant Brothers and Travis Tritt, and this summer played Jeff Foxworthy's mother for an episode of Foxworthy's Big Night Out, with Kenny Rogers. BUY ME One of many praises given this CD, world famous JON LUCIEN wrote, "Cynthia Scott in my opinion is the best female singer in the business today. She's a real performer, a fantastic voice and complete musician. Listen to Cynthia and hear for yourself."Cynthia was born in Arkansas, began singing at the age of four and was the 10th child of 12 children in a musical family. She developed her craft singing gospel music in her father's church. After high school, Cynthia moved to Dallas, Texas, and started singing on the local club scene. She became a "RAELETTE" with the RAY CHARLES organization, recording and touring with him for two years. On one European tour with Ray Charles, which was promoted by the late, great NORMAN GRANZ, she had the pleasure of sharing the same stage with THE COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA and OSCAR PETERSON.Returning to Dallas, Cynthia established a very wide following. She continued to tour abroad in Paris, Russia and China. While in China she performed for dignitaries in Shanghai with the aid of an interpreter.Cynthia came to New York after receiving a call from the owner of a popular club to perform. She then hired, as yet undiscovered, HARRY CONNICK JR. as one of her pianist. They met again at a DAVID LETTERMAN Christmas Party some years later and he introduced her as "one of the greatest jazz singers." She still laughs at what she paid him while they'd worked together and wishes he was still available for that price. A four week engagement turned into a three year stretch, so Cynthia decided to call New York City home.Cynthia has performed at many clubs in New York City. For the past ten years she was the featured vocalist at the Supper Club with the 17 piece Supper Club Big Band and could be seen and heard there every week when not doing concerts or private events. She said it was wonderful to have a steady singing engagement in New York and still have the freedom to perform other engagements. At one private function, she sang for the former VICE ...
