| | Phantom Of The Opera CD (1987) Original Soundtrack
From Above
$15.05 Music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Lyrics by Charles Hart.
It's a testament to Andrew Lloyd Webber's crowd-pleasing compositional skills that the original cast recording of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA went on to become the biggest-selling cast album ever. So when the time came to adapt his music for the film version of the monumentally successful theatrical work, Webber enlisted the aid of longtime collaborators Nigel Wright and Simon Lee. They produced an expanded orchestral version of the score, grander and more sumptuous than the original, and assembled a 100-member ensemble to do it justice.
However, the tragic story of the disfigured Phantom and Christine, the beautiful object of his desire, cannot be told without powerful performances of those roles. Gerard Butler and ...

$10.49 This is a delightful CD, recorded by Klaus Arp and the Cologne Radio Orchestra, which will probably get lost in either the soundtrack or classical sections of whatever store chooses to stock it, simply because outside of Germany and Austria, only serious music buffs will recognize Walter Jurmann's name. In another reality, Jurmann might well have been a rival to his slightly older Viennese contemporary Frederick Loewe. As it is, his songs, usually written with lyricist Fritz Rotter, were among the most popular and memorable to grace German popular music of the 1920s, filled with hauntingly beautiful melodies and exquisite scoring. Once he moved into film composition -- which included full scores as well as songs in his early German film work -- in partnership with Bronislaw Kaper, he was truly in his element. His German music often reflected the lighthearted, jaunty spirit of the jazz age, in pieces such as "Du Bist Night Die Erste" -- the opening medley shows how easily this material slid into his American period (including the song "San Francisco," from the MGM movie of that name). And "Le Bistro du Port" and "On n'aime qu'une fois," from his short-lived French period, show how easily Jurmann ...

$7.99 Orchestronics has been producing music for television for 20-years. Taking the best of the acoustic and electronic worlds, Orchestronics has created a hybrid sound and style that marries the past with the future. Ever since Switched On Bach, (Wendy Carlos' landmark recording of Bach classics performed on an early Moog synthesizer, a new cd in 1968), electronic instruments have proven themselves capable of handling orchestral challenges. For many years since, synthesizers and samplers have taken their place alongside guitars and drums, becoming staples of rock, pop, jazz, new age, and dance. Electronic music is coming of age. Electronic classical music has spawned its own new genre. More recently, synthetic sounds have threaded their way through film scores, television and video productions. Now, as computers compete with TVs for the family's attention, electronic sounds are much more familiar, especially to young people who have always been exposed to them. Electronic classical music is still a mystery to many ears. Classical music has been "uncool" in many households, since the days of Elvis. But, electronic instruments add life and style ...
