Just reviewed by SPUN: "From Infinity Cat Recordings comes the delightful Sundays and Birthdays by Andy West. Somewhere between acoustic pop and singer/songwriter material, Mr. West puts to music his hopes and regrets among ten songs." Recommended CD of the week! Born in Liverpool, England, Andy West grew up listening to a gratefully inherited stack of Buddy Holly, Byrds and T-Rex records. Before long it was the late seventies and he was spending 100% of his pocket money on Squeeze and The Clash. At 15, Andy bought a guitar, picked up a Beatles songbook and began to strum. Three years later he formed The Fontaines. At first the band performed covers, but later they developed original material and toured the south of England. In 1991, Andy joined a band featuring Hugh Cornwall (The Stranglers) and legendary songwriter Roger Cook (Blue Mink). The resulting "Cornwall, Cook and West" album was released on UFO Records to widespread critical acclaim. The trio toured Europe and made live radio appearances to promote the release. During the mid-nineties, Andy became more involved in writing and recording soundtrack music for Carlin Productions in London. Following a writing trip to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997, he moved to the United States and signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell in Nashville in March 1999. He has since formed his own publishing company, Mercy Beaucoup."Sundays and Birthdays" is Andy West's first solo recording venture. Discover for yourself one of England's finest singer/songwriters and tune into the start of something special. Sundays And Birthdays music CDs
$13.59 The second album by the David Nelson Band, recorded live at Baltimore's Eight by Ten Club in the summer of 1995, finds the band in fine form. Unlike old pal Garcia's perfect fractured warble, Nelson has a slightly flat but bold voice that gives the songs a honky tonk, rather than folksy, ...
| | Claudia Jane Identity Crisis CD (2004)
Sundays And Birthdays songs
$7.49 Hi. I'm a singer-songwriter and I live in Ashland, Wis. This is my debut solo album, titled "Identity Crisis." I don't sound like a boy band or a pop diva. I've got my own progressive folk/ new folk/ free folk style (a good thing) that's inspired by the music I love: Wilco, R.E.M., Gillian Welch, Nellie McKay, Loretta Lynn, Lucinda Williams, Greg Brown. I love rhythm, thanks to rap and electronica, (such as Bjork, House of Pain, Dr. Dre, Arrested Development, Digable Planets) and funky stuff like Jamiroquai...I'll listen to anything. But back to my album. It melds emotional electric and acoustic rhythm guitar, sincere lyrics and direct vocals. You'll want to hear more after the first listen. Random people will tell me that the music has helped them pull through major life events. That alone was worth making the album."Identity Crisis" is a bit experimental, but not so much that the music is pretentious. On "Fool For You," an electrified love song on the album, for example, I play a kitchen colander.Sasha Mercedes, my producer, calls "Identity Crisis" progressive folk-rock because the album hybridizes music genres. The music straddles the boundary of bluesy folk and Americana to also tread on territory paved by more modern punk and rock. The folky title track features finger-picked electric guitar to share voices I heard on her trip to Washington D.C. in 2002 as a newspaper reporter covering an anti-war protest."Susanna" ...
| | Mystic Caravan Urban Pleasures CD (2002)
Sundays And Birthdays album
$12.69 The Mystic Caravan is an unpredictable group gaining it's fair share of local press in the past year for their underground musical projects. Having heralded rave reviews for their debut album "Urban Pleasures", this group has proven themselves as competent recording artists with a mature and innovative songwriting approach. From this album alone one gets the feeling that this group is a special and rare talent who captures magic on record. But it doesn't stop there... In March of 2003, the group won the K-Rock 105.7 Extreme Bandslam Competition, claiming a unanimous victory over 62 other groups in eastern Ontario, Canada. With their energetic and open stage performance, thumping powerful sound and cleverly catchy tunes, they weren't just a recording act, but a live act too. One not to be missed. Here's what the press has to say about The Mystic Caravan:"During a show at the Scherzo Pub in Kingston last month, The Mystic Caravan decided, in the interests of spontaneity, to scrap their planned song list. Instead, minutes before they were to hit the stage, they sat down at the bar and wrote out their entire first set in randomly selected keys, and then proceeded to play for the incredulous audience."Paul Gurnsey, The Whig Standard."The show really got started once The Mystic Caravan took the stage and won the approval of the growing crowd 30 seconds into their first song. With a sound that ran the gamut of everything from Radiohead to Elevator to The Dalai Llamas and back, this local five-piece band is a salute to originality and a hybrid of talent. TMC belted through an energetic performance loaded ...
| | Mike Band Corrado Ziller And The Baboon CD (2001)
Sundays And Birthdays CD music
$8.55 "I started writing songs" reveals Mike Corrado, "just as a way to express some thoughts. The training I received in military school was intended to keep me focused with strict discipline and regimen. But composing has kept my mind open."Singer songwriter Mike Corrado traded in his rifle for an acoustic guitar to pursue music. His success, like his music, keeps growing. "Though I didn't come from a musical family," he continues, "I'd been playing drums regularly in bands since the second grade. When the time came to choose a direction in life and make a decision on college, I actually turned down a music scholarship and opted for the Citadel. Had I done otherwise I wouldn't have taken academics seriously."After earning a business degree, traveling the world, and serving in the Marine Corps as an infantry officer, Mike formed a powerful ensemble under his own name. The Mike Corrado Band melds American traditional rock, jazz, R & B, funk, and adult alternative pop along with a jam band work ethic that has built a substantial following through incessant touring, word-of-mouth, and independent radio airplay.Mike's concert appearances with renown recording artists such as Melissa Etheridge, Bob Weir & Ratdog, Train, Vertical Horizon, The Legendary Wailers, Edie Brickel & The New Bohemians, Six Pence None The Richer, Sister Hazel, and Edwin McCain among others, continue to bring new fans into the fold. "Sure, I've played with many big names, but most of the time it was all about pounding the pavement. There was about two or three years where I was doing something like 250 to 300 shows per year with my group." The Mike Corrado Band released Ziller & The Baboon in 2001. Though the record came out on September 12 and a subsequent tour had to be postponed, Mike looks forward to the future."I don't know what people are used to hearing, but it's an amazing experience to go into a venue for the first time and blow it apart! The feedback I garner from audiences is fantastic. My band turns heads even though we're introducing material people have never heard before. The ongoing challenge for me is to hold my own with great musicians like Robert Cray, who we've played with. Obviously, he has hard-core blues fans, but I go up there with just a little bit of a different take on ...
