Hi Sweetheart, it's me Calanit! In case you don't know how to say my name, it's like this: Call-ahh-neet!!! OK, everyone, so I'm here to tell you about me and my music. Ready? Well, well...where to begin? First of all, I live in NYC but you might have heard my single that's out all over the world called 'If You Come Back' on Ultra Records. Yeah, they decided to put it on Ministry of Sound 2004 Annual...kinda cool...and it's been spinning on a lot of DJ's playlists. But there's A LOT of story leading up to where I am today that I'm excited to tell you about...Here's a little about me: The only thing I live for is to sing, write, perform and record music and to be a star. I feel so alive on stage and I wish I could be performing or in the studio all the time...and you know, I'm so glad that my music is finally starting to get heard. But guesss what?...you might have heard my music (and my voice) and not known it was me! See, while working on my artist stuff, I wrote this song for Paulina Rubio that was a hit for her called 'Baila Casanova' (and also they used in 'Kangaroo Jack') and another one for Becky Baeling called 'I'm Gonna Fly' (which they used in a major film with Heather Graham that you probably saw, called 'The Guru'). I loved them both for me as an artist, but I knew I would write other hits, so I let them record it (and the video for 'Baila Casanova' has these guys dancing around...oh, they are sooo hot!). And not to brag (but you want to know about me, right?), I also won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest 3 years straight in the dance category...which was a really cool thing to a part of. But, anyway, it's been a long journey and let me tell you something, it hasn't been easy. There are special people in my life that have always believed in me...poor babies had to put up with a lot of my shit and had to hear me all the time say 'Baby ,When am I goin' to be superstar?!!?' 'Soon...Calanit, soon...we're working on it.' We all go through struggles, and believe me, my story is one of them...when I say struggle, I mean st-ruggle with a capital 'S!' I guess the word 'believe' has a very strong meaning to me. It's hard out there to pursue your dreams...especially in the music business...you have to go through a lot of rejection and a lot of silly people, who don't even know what music is. Nothing could have changed my mind about my music. OK, let me tell you...(one of the many many many tough times and stories I can tell you) was when I came to Los Angeles and the United States. I was 18, and had some unfabulous times supporting myself as a non-English speaking immigrants selling flowers...and also sandwiches no one wanted to buy because I said 'bird' and 'leather' instead of 'bread' and 'lettuce.' It's true! (haha). I quickly adapted English and I tried every way I could to get into the studio, to make my music and to follow my dream. I also performed whenever I could, and you may have seen one of my show's at The Roxy, Webster Hall, Rage (Los Angeles), Neighbors (Seattle), etc. or at other festivals. Believe me, everyone got to know me in Los Angeles and also the DJ booths very fast!...'Baby, Pleeease play my record!!' And to get discovered, I was making phone calls to record labels non stop, everyday...acting like they knew me, making up names.
