Eric has two strikes against him: He's a lawyer from New Jersey. As a pinch hitter in the singer/songwriter playoffs he's digging in at home plate, wielding the corked bat of literate pop and hoping to break out of the rookie leagues. C'mon, lob it over! Eric began writing and performing original material during his junior year in London in the late 80s. Upon returning to Princeton University he played in clubs and coffeehouses throughout the tri-state area. In the 90s he obtained a law degree from Georgetown, began a career as a civil defense attorney, formed the Crash Chorus and released five albums of original material. 2000 saw the release of Breakfast, the Crash Chorus's 14-song debut CD. In April 2005 the YES Network used the Breakfast track "Opening Day" in "Pride, Power and Pinstripes," their special on the 2005 New York Yankees. The team went on to rack up their worst April record since 1944. This we attribute to the network's decision to use only 30 seconds of the song while the credits rolled. In May 2005 Eric and the Crash Chorus completed and released A Little Bit of Sickness, a collection of 11 new recordings engineered and mixed by Eric Kvortek at Trax East Studios. We think it's a minor masterpiece. (Of course, "we" are Eric sitting at his computer in his ratty boxers dreaming of stardom while ignoring his two year old daughter's cries for milk.)The music: Literate pop, clever and passionate. "Exhibits the strengths of Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan" -- The Georgetown Review . . . "Original lyrics which border on genius" -- Option . . . "Acoustic-oriented punk death poetry" -- The Insider . . . "Strong songwriting, good singing, thoughtful production" . . . The Splatter Effect . . . "Clever, passionate lyrics and a melodic, catchy, sound" -- The Sentinel . . . "Tight pop-folk gems bristling with wry sarcasm and desperate longing . . . radiant with more incandescent moments than most songwriters can muster in a career" -- Georgetown Weekly

Document's second volume of George Williams and Bessie Brown's complete works contains their final recordings as a duo (tracks 1-3 and 8-9, dating from 1925 and 1926) and eight records made by Williams without Brown during the years 1925-1930. This finishes off the chronology begun on the previous volume. Accompanying instrumentalists include Fletcher Henderson and his bandsmen Don Redman and Charlie Green; Canadian-born and Michigan-raised pianist Louis Hooper; songwriter and pianist Lemuel Fowler, and cornetist Harry Tate. Curiously for a bluesman, but not at all unusually for an ex-vaudevillian and theatrically trained performer, Williams shows off his ability to sound like a Swiss mountaineer on "Yodelin' the Blues Away." Eleven titles by six other duos fill out the disc and transform it into a valuable and entertaining anthology of African-American entertainments from the '20s. Eddie Hunter (b.1888) and Alex Rogers (1876-1930) perform "I'm Done" and "Bootlegger's Ball," a pair of vintage spoken comedy routines recorded in 1923 with piano accompaniment by Harlem stride piano master Charles Luckeyeth Roberts. Hunter, who at one point worked as a lyricist for Bert Williams, would later retire from theater and become a very successful businessman specializing in Harlem real estate. "Sweet Mandy" and "Who Calls You Sweet Mama Now" were recorded in 1924 by Louella Jones (Alberta Perkins) and Jazz Caspar (William Weldon "Billy" Higgins), composer of "There'll Be Some Changes Made." The cornetist on this session, Bubber Miley, would soon achieve fame as one of Duke Ellington's star soloists. "Just Too Bad" ...

Preferring to believe that the glass is half full rather than half empty, these brothers tend to have rather soft and gentle harmonies over some breezy, laid-back pop/rock arrangements. The opening title track is a good example of this, evoking images of the Beach Boys and endless summer California days. "Gotta Be Love" continues in a tight and dreamy pop sequence, with the appropriate singalong portions and "doo do doos." A good portion of the album keeps a framework that works well, but at times the lyrics and overall feeling lose some of their energy. "Wish" is such a case, as the closing minute is just repetitive and should have been edited. Slower or alternative tempo ballads like "This," "She'll Never Know," and "A Need for Knowing" recall bands such as the Rembrandts and even the La's, particularly during the brief but inspired guitar solos. One of the finer songs and perhaps the album's best is "Baby Girl." Both Tim Anthony and Lou Anthony complement each other quite well, but the vocals aren't powerful or over the top, relying on the music to lead the way, as on "Feels Like Forever." The result is a series of adequate and quite melodic summer pop tunes, culminating in the pretty "Happy Ending." ~ Jason MacNeil THE BRAMBLES LOST RECORDINGS NOW OUT!!!WWW.CDBABY.COM/CD/BRAMBLES43/23/09www.myspace.com/timanthonythebramblesReview from BrazilMonday, 20 October 2008 "Retrofit"/"The Next Big Thing"/"The Happy Door": TIM ANTHONY & THE BRAMBLES "Retrofit" / "The Next Big Thing" / "The Happy Door": TIM ANTHONY & THE Bramble If we could condense the trajectory of commercial power in the world of pop music in a single artist, Tim Anthony could use as an example. Artisan's perfect pop song, the American musician from Syracuse, was repeatedly at a pitch of a great record. In more than 25 years of career, Anthony could have signed with Elektra, Geffen, A & M, Capitol ... but in the last minute, something always failed (some would call it "the curse of power pop "...). Retrofit is a collection of rare recordings with Anthony made in the'80s (after the Brambles formed with the cousin Lou Anthony, but continued releasing solo albums). Indeed, for beginners in the career of the U.S., more interesting are his latest album: The Next Big Thing, from 2000, with Brambles and The Happy Door 2005, the discography soil. ” As record, is worth mentioning the two tracks of the opening of Retrofit, where Anthony led the Agents in 1982, which lasted only a single, "Do not Forget Me" ( "Agents Of The Future" was the B side). The Next Big Thing crystallizes ...
