| | Bobby Wells Bayside CD Bobby Wells Discography of CDs
While he's not quite as slick and richly produced as top smooth jazz keyboardist Brian Culbertson, this Denver and funk-based keyboardist mines similarly accessible territory on his fourth release, with immediately likeable results. Between frequent returns to the catchy hook of the title track with acoustic guitarist Michael O'Neill are lovely acoustic piano runs that show a deeper jazz sensibility than most genre hits have. Wells and O'Neill (on a restrained electric) go a bit more retro soulful on the moody "My Heart to Yours." While always bubbling under the surface of the genre elite, Wells is well connected enough to have had Kirk Whalum on his previous release It's About Time, and Eric Marienthal's rich tenor on two key tracks here -- the dreamy romance "I Barely Know You" and the light funk gem "Loosen Up." Wells goes gently exotic on "Rio Good" with the help of well-known flutist Bryan Savage and lets Mel Brown's cool, thumping bass share the glory on "My All in All." Left to his own devices, Wells does just fine, brightening up the easy grooves of "Traffic Jam" with an energetic keyboard melody. His only serious misstep is in assuming he should do his own vocals on "I'm That Kind of Guy." The tune has a great, Rhodes-flavored vibe but the overall result is bland. As a singer, Wells has a limited future, but as a smooth jazz keyboardist, he's worthy of much more attention. ~ Jonathan Widran Songwriter/producer/keyboardist Bobby Wells features a cool line up of artists for the "BAYSIDE"project: National recording artist Eric Marienthal/Sax, Michael O'Neill/Guitar, Bryan Savage/Flute, Mel Brown/Bass, Darren Rahn/Sax, Bobby Wells/Keyboards/Vocals and Brandy Wells/background vocalsBobby began his recording career in the Rocky Mountain city of Denver, Colorado after winning the "Battle of the Bands" for Smooth Jazz radio station 94. 7 KHIH. He's since then moved to L.A. to be closer to the industry. Bobby's music is best described as: feel good, warm, soulful, energetic and passionate. He blends tasty hints of caribbean and latin rhythms with his roots of funk, pop and jazz into a Smooth Jazz vibe. He's worked with and shared the stage or billings with some of the most powerful names in Smooth Jazz such as: BONEY JAMES, RICHARD ELLIOT, CRAIG CHAQUICO, NATHAN EAST, MICHAEL O'NEILL, EVERETTE HARP, PETER WHITE, DOC POWELL, WARREN HILL, DOTSERO, BOBBY CALDWELL, KEN NAVARRO, KIRK WHALUM, JEFF LORBER, FATTBURGER, NELSON RANGELL, BAMBOO FOREST, ANDREW WOOLFOLK (of EARTH, WIND & FIRE) and more... $12.99 STOLAS is the 12th volume in John Zorn's BOOK OF ANGELS series of compositions, and it's a welcome and compelling idea that he decided to re-form his stellar Masada quintet for the occasion. In addition to the rhythm section of Joey Baron and Greg Cohen, trumpeter Dave Douglas, and pianist Uri Caine, Zorn enlisted tenor sax giant Joe Lovano to replace him on all but one cut where he adds his alto, making the group a sextet. Here klezmer, Yiddish folk music, bossa nova, and other Latin jazz all come together in a seamless meld of ...

Bayside music CDs
$15.19 The genre-bending debut 'Caminhos Cruzados' by a thrilling new vocalist Masha Campagne has all the wonder of a magical discovery and excitement of artistic accomplishment. From classics of Cole Porter and Jobim to modern standards of Guinga and pop ballads of Djavan, Campagne dazzles with her contagious, sophisticated style, great imagination and truly unique artistry.Born and raised in Moscow, Russia Campagne was immersed in Classical European tradition while studying cello and piano at the renowned Gnessin State Musical College. Diverse ethnic, cultural and creative atmosphere in Moscow during her ripening years inspired her to learn to play guitar and sing. Those early repertoire choices were Russian folk songs and City romances by Vertinsky, Okudjava and Makarevich. Campagne's musical family provided nurturing ground for her studies and encouraged an adventurous spirit by introducing diverse styles of music. At home she first heard LP records of Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, and Miles Davis and the vocal stylings of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Carmen McCrae. 'My grandfather, the greatest inspiration and a multi-reed player, introduced me to the world of Jazz. Playing nightly with his 25-piece band at the Moscow landmark 'Metropol' restaurant he would often bring me along to his gigs. The spontaneity and swinging energy of the music abducted my heart . . . ' Campagne recalls. While in high school Campagne discovered Brazilian Jazz. Those early influences were João Gilberto, Tom Jobim and Elis Regina. In Campagne's words 'Brazilian Jazz with its sophisticated harmonies, subtle dynamics and unaffected vocals were a major inspiration'. In 1991, Campagne relocated to San Francisco, with its rich and varied musical heritage. She was soon fully immersed in the Jazz scene by joining the Foothill College Jazz vocal group 'Fanfares' which won first prize in 1995 Down Beat's vocal Jazz competition. In 2000, already a veteran performer Campagne stepped into the local San Francisco Brazilian music scene by teaming up with British guitarist Simon Butler to co-found the duo entitled 'Cantando um Samba. ' This collaboration resulted in a self-titled EP, which featured compositions by Tom Jobim, Tonhinho ...
