CHLOE CHRISTIAN PANG, pianist"Chloe's performance reflects her affection and devotion to this great work...her knowledge of the style is impressive."-Laurette Goldberg, world-renowned Baroque authority"(Chloe's performance)-One of the loveliest musical moments on the Late Show."-David Letterman"Perfect execution and elocution."Paul ShafferCBS Late Show OrchestraSince giving her first public performance at the age of 4, Chloe Christian Pang has been captivating audiences with her spirited and commanding performances. Recorded at 12, she is the youngest pianist in history to professionally record Bach's formidable Goldberg Variations for commercial release. Last season, she performed excerpts of the Goldberg Variations on the "Late Show with David Letterman," made her New York debut at Columbia Artists' CAMI Hall, and performed at Boston's Jordan Hall for Public Radio International's musical prodigy program, "From the Top". Chloe has performed recitals in Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and New York. The piano was her first toy. At the age of 3, Chloe's passion for math and art prevailed. Never having had a formal piano lesson, it was only after Chloe plucked out melodies on the piano that she heard, singing incessantly and marking up music scores, that her mother began teaching her at 4. At 6, Chloe vowed to live by Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken", which still graces her bedroom door. She made her Solo Recital debut at 8 and was one of the youngest performers chosen for the Junior Bach Festival that year. At 10, Chloe made her orchestral debut with the Pro Art Symphony Orchestra and appears as frequent guest soloist with symphonies such as the Pacific Chamber Symphony and Fremont Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has won many prestigious first place awards and top prizes. Chloe is a student of Mack McCray at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and resides in the Bay area. She continues to establish herself as a unique pianist whose dream is 'to unite people through the beauty of music'. Her playing exudes a rare sense of maturity, strength, beauty, and charisma that inspires audiences everywhere. Please visit: chloepang.com Bach: Goldberg Variations Music | Label | Serenfinity Records | | CD Universe Part number | 7164248 | | Catalog number | 39732 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Oct 26, 2004 |

Bach: Goldberg Variations
$17.75 Symphonic, electronic, orchestral music in a genre all its own.An exciting and original blend of classical, world and post 20th century music.Regeneration also includes "Vision & Prayer", a cycle of nine songs based on the poetry of Dylan Thomas.Symphony #3 was composed and produced from November 1998 through August 1999. This four-movement work satisfied my desire to write in a long-form genre using the virtual orchestra as my medium. I chose to combine samples of acoustic instruments with synthesized electronic timbres while exploring musical texture and form. The movements differ in mood and style. The 1st movement Spirals of Light, begins and ends on D-minor and moves through numerous tonal centers, culminating in a joyous and dramatic coda in D-major. The 2nd movement is a slow meditation using a C-major scale but included in the scale are the notes D-flat, F-sharp and B-flat. The movement ends on G. The 3rd movement, Slick Tricks, employs the mixolydian mode, makes use of triplets to maintain the underlying pulse, and has a distinctively American flavor. The 4th movement Cycles of Seven, uses the number 7 in several ways. The main theme has 7 notes. ...
| | Eileen Mager Christmas Treasures CD (2000)
Bach: Goldberg Variations
$10.15 About This CDThis is the perfect Christmas gift. "Christmas Treasures" is a collection of beautiful but little-known Christmas carols from around the world, sung by Eileen Mager's warm and clear voice. The accompaniments are arranged and performed by Ellen Brown, using sounds carefully chosen to reflect each carol's culture of origin. The carols are sung in their original languages and in English.Christmas is the season for which more music has been written than any other - gorgeous music, touching music, charming music, grand music, light-hearted music, even funny music. Some Christmas music was written by famous composers, and some by people whose names will never be known. And the sad thing is that most of it is only rarely heard. The artists wanted to share a very special kind of delightful Christmas carol: The kind you don't hear all the time, and may never have heard at all. The carols on this recording are, of course, celebratory of the Christmas story. But they also give insights into the cultures from which they come, because each culture expresses the Christmas story in its own metaphor. For example, you find echo carols (like "Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht") coming from Alpine countries, where there are echoes aplenty. The Huron Indian carol, "'Twas in the Moon of Wintertime" speaks of wrapping the baby Jesus in a ragged rabbit skin. Make this lovely and engaging recording a part of your own personal Christmas tradition. THE ARTISTSEileen Mager, sopranoEileen studied voice with Marie S. Kraft at the Cleveland Institute of Music, with Julia LeVine in Chicago, and now works with John Merwin in Scottsdale. She began singing professionally in Chicago, moved with her husband to California, and then to Arizona in 1982. She is one of that rare breed: a recitalist. She is a leading performer for the Arizona Vivaldi Festivals, sings with the Arizona chamber choir Cantemus, and is a frequent solo performer in Arizona churches and concert venues. She was Artistic Director for the 2000-2001 Arizona Vivaldi Festival. Her repertoire is very broad - from opera to jazz, Broadway to folk, classical religious works to spirituals and gospels - and her performances have included works of ...

| | Choi Billy Martin: Starlings CD (2006)
Bach: Goldberg Variations
$13.39 Even those who know Billy Martin as more than the drummer for Medeski, Martin & Wood should be surprised hearing him as a composer of new music based on chamber precepts, 21st century modern ideas, and sounds removed from what might be expected -- perhaps leading a percussion conclave. The two extended suites "Starlings" and "Metamorphosis" comprise orchestrated and expanded concepts from music Martin originally recorded for mbira on the 1991 Amulet label recording Black Elk Speaks. Anthony Coleman conducts groups ranging from a standard string quartet to a tentet of brass, woodwinds, and strings. Martin's concept of a detailed charted and constructed framework with room inside for improvisation allows the music to breathe organically. It expands and contracts at will, utilizing layering and counterpoint, and attains large sonic textures that are far from conventional and safe, requiring deep listening. The Black Elk Orchestra plays "Starlings 1" through "Starlings 5" and "Metamorphosis 1" through "Metamorphosis 3." The former suite is an evocative deconstruction of assimilated bird calls, chirps, and whistles ranging in tone and stance from Steve Reich or Philip Glass minimalism to calmer or spatial chatty phrases (in part described as "Mancini bluesiness") and circus-like clarion calls. Bursting shards of lights flashing on and off with high-octave horns and dark-shaded strings, a short quote from "O, Canada," and stark unison dialects identify the accurately titled baroque-inspired "Metamorphosis." The Sirius String Quartet take "Soul Map" through an around-the-house ...
