Coming out of the Bloomsburg, Pa. area, Switchcase has just released their debut album "Screaming For A Reason" Starting off with a pumpin beat behind bone crushing riffs and aggressive lyrics. Then going into more melodic hard rock with striking guitar work and emotionally charged vocals. Purification features heavy guitar and bass work, transitioning from mellow to heavy. Down delivers very emotional vocals, pushed by excellent acoustic guitar work. From beginning to end lies a dynamic and diverse blend of music, making it hard to categorize as one genre. Screaming For A Reason album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, a version of Jimmie Rodgers' "Miss the Mississippi ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
Screaming For A Reason CD music
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda ...

| | Muse The Resistance CD (2009)
Screaming For A Reason album
$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE is most certainly extravagant -- there are snatches of classical piano entwined throughout, not to mention bilingual lyrics, concert hall percussion, coronet solos, and song titles like "Exogenesis: Symphony, Pt. 2 (Cross-Pollination)" -- but it's also quite beautiful, capable of moving between prog rock choruses and excerpts from Chopin's "Nocturne in E Flat Major" within the same song. ...

| | Fojimoto Don't Let Your Baby Down CD (2004)
Screaming For A Reason CD music
$13.69 With a sound that blends 3-part harmonies, indie rock, and power pop, San Francisco's DIY trio Fojimoto has laid the groundwork for a long lasting career. The secret to Fojimoto's success has been hard work. After only two years since it's formation, Fojimoto has gone on several midwestern tours, recorded a critically acclaimed debut album, "Just Now Finding Out" and follow up EP "Don't Let Your Baby Down", and developed a live show that has won over fans from Omaha to Chicago.San Francisco Noise Pop organizer Chris Slater writes, "Damn it all if Fojimoto aren't at the beginning of a meteoric rise to indie pop superstardom...It's fuzzy in all the right places." It's a rare moment when a group of artists can come together, set aside their egos, and simply make soulful rock music. In the summer of 2000, that's what happened when Fojimoto was formed by singer/songwriter Marwan Kanafani, bassist Ryan Waggoner, and drummer Jon Fojtik. Under the cloak of such influences as Big Star, the Kinks and REM, Fojimoto quickly grew into a tight friendship. There were ...
