Album description:Flight of Ideas is an instrumental recording featuring acoustic and electric guitar work in varied lyrical and expressive songs. Synthesizer and electric piano sounds round out the tonal landscape. Songs range from pensive to funky. My musical inspirations are diverse and you will hear elements of jazz, blues, folk, fusion, and rock. Some may consider certain songs to be new age but I've never embraced that label. My guitar lines are clean, passionate, and from the heart.I recorded this CD from April 2002 to July 2003 and include here 14 original songs among three dozen completed works. I produced these songs using a digital audio workstation that permitted complex multi-tracked recordings and overdubbing. For the first time, I could realize my vision of fully formed nuanced versions of my songs. On this CD, I play all of the instruments; the songs range from one to fifteen separate tracks. Instruments include acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, electric guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, piano, synthesizer, electric piano, clavinet, and organ.Artist bio:Guitar has been a passion for me since I was 12 years old. My first guitar was a cherry red Gibson ES-330 that I played in a stage band, then in a garage rock band in high school. My guitar playing grew and became more expressive during my college days while forging friendships and playing acoustic lead guitar in a folk rock band. My joy in recently discovering and remixing those old tapes encouraged me to record my own original songs. After a long lull and the growth of a career as a physician at Harvard Medical School, I began to play again for my own relaxation over the past few years. Around this time, I started to explore different sounds and tonalities as an unnecessary but blissful diversion. I taught myself keyboards as a compositional tool and to add depth and complexity to my recordings. While I write most of my songs on acoustic guitar or piano, I've used my interest in different instruments to record multi-tracked songs that allow me to express the full vision of my songs with complex and varied arrangements. Recording this album has been a joy and epiphany for me. I express my artistic energies in these deeply personal creations and am delighted to share my musical vision. I hope this music brings you joy and wonder too. $18.99 BRAINSTUN: a perspectiveby Michael HicksI have been listening to Christian Asplund's music for almost twenty years. It has evolved, no doubt-better voice leading, counterpoint, etc. But what I cherish about it is that it has never lost its intrinsic point of view, so beautifully idiosyncratic that I have never heard two people describe it the same way. That's good (for Christian, for music). I'll just say that his compositions hover between serious and playful attitudes just as Cage's, Zappa's, Zorn's, or even Carl Stalling's do. There is an acute learnedness tainted with sarcasm, sometimes an almost cloying sweetness shot through with a Varese-like intensity. Yes, I know: postmodernism. But more important, as Laurie Anderson-another in this pantheon of "attitudists"-once said of Cage: "He makes me smile. I trust that."Brainstun is both a distillation and flowering of Asplund's already large collected opus. A distillation because one finds here microcosms of what one can hear in his operas and orchestral pieces (equally unclassifiable but more overtly "legit" in their trappings). A flowering because this powerful quartet not only behaves with the same attitude as Asplund but shapes the music equally with him, intelligently yet with an almost Talking Headslevel groove. Each player's performative conviction and conversance with styles makes the quartet collectively a perfect match for Asplund's charts. Philip Glass, free jazz, Bartok, hiphop, and on and on-trying to list the influences is to pollute the intuitive synthesis they make-or, more precisely, it (one organism) makes. So just listen: Brainstun thinks with its guts.BIOSCHRISTIAN ASPLUND (viola and piano) is a true crossover artist; his music has been heard in rock and jazz clubs and festivals, college radio stations, and independent record labels, as well as concert halls and theaters. Christian Asplund has been composing and performing prolifically his own unique brand of music for several years. His music is informed by diverse influences in Euro-American ...

$15.19 A great guitarist who flourishes without the fuel driven by ego is a rarity, but Carl Burnett is one such player. Carl manages to be on everyone's A-list without the attitude that generally accompanies that realm. A guitarist with a dizzying list of credits who has played and recorded with the likes of Branford Marsalis, David Sanborn, Robben Ford, Hiroshima and the late George Howard and has appeared on the Tonight Show, David Letterman, and The Grammy Awards. Carl's resume reads like a "Who's Who" in the music industry, but you won't hear him bragging about itFew guitarists can be described ...
