| | Gov't Mule By A Thread CD (2009)
Liz Jee music CDs
$11.89 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part ...

| | John Dyer Gostayplay CD (2004)
Liz Jee music CDs
$13.29 BEST ALBUM Finalist (Folk/ Singer - Songwriter). Idependent Music Awards. "John Dyer - Gostayplay"HONORABLE MENTION - BEST SONG - PERFORMANCE. International Songwriters Competition. “John Dyer - Hot Owl”"TOP TEN INDIE RELEASE" - Todd Mack, Off the Beat-n-Track "If you dig the 'old-school' of singer-songwriters who nimbly traversed genres but never lost their true identity and artistic vision - think Steve Goodman, Loudon Wainwright III, Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley, and her holiness Joni Mitchell, then 'Gostayplay' is your cup of meat. Dyer’s wordplay, cinematic arrangements, and sinewy melodies are the stuff of a grand statement, yet the multi-instrumentalist (along with the help of some truly talented sidemen) pulls it off almost effortlessly. Just when you think pop music has become formula - along comes 'Gostayplay'." -Tom Semioli, Amplifier Magazine"'Gostayplay' immediately caught my attention...Dyer writes in a style closer to that of a poet than a pop star, yet his songs are memorable and quite melodic throughout. Be ready for a moving experience." - Joseph A. Italiano, Skope Magazine “A passionate array of music that scores emotions and tugs at heartstrings, 'Gostayplay' showcases John Dyer’s passion for writing music. His songwriting is hot and has a certain flair to it that breathes life into each note that he strums. Great music that is as catchy as it is dynamic." J- Sin/ Smother Magazine “Dyer has an unusual yet compelling vocal style and insightful lyrics. His storytelling has an animated, down home flavor. Dyer's 'Gostayplay' is diverse & dramatic....a creative mix of sleepy textures & tones. It takes many interesting turns.....a striking combination of horns and rhythms floating into breezy vocals and whistling.....the spirit of train movement." - Laura Turner Lynch, Kweevak.com “Upbeat folk artists are hard to come by, and John Dyer is the head of that unfound clan. Bluesy riffs that have a power pop jab, Dyer is more than just the traditional folk hippie feel, to transquote John Travolta ‘he’s like wax museum with a pulse’. Dyer is a writer on the cusp of sincere indie success." - Brian Rutherford. Music Emissions “Really cool. The first cut Airtime grabs you and lets you know that John is the real deal. His vocal is engaging, and the production offers just enough ear candy here and there to allow the listener to discover new things down the road." - Chris Mara, Bitchin' Music Reviews "John Dyer's CD 'GoStayPlay' is as loaded with walls of sound as an early Phil Spector production. The artist uses multiple layers of instruments and electronic sounds, allowing his reedy, ...
| | Adam Warner Fall CD (2004)
Liz Jee songs
$14.79 Adam Warner knows a lot of different roads. Certainly he is no stranger to change. You see, sometimes you encounter things that drastically alter your life or your perception of it. It could be restless new sounds you hear that tear you out of your everyday existence. Or maybe it’s seeing the “Dead End” sign at the end of your street and smiling knowingly. Sometimes it’s a matter of life-altering fried chicken.Whether it’s hearing Tom Waits and Guy Clark for the first time or hanging out in Austin and having your friend Gary McElhaney (sculptor and former Armadillo World Headquarters poster artist) prepare the best meal of your life or well, just realizing the intellectual and artistic limitations of living just outside a town where the real estate agent’s name is Skeeter, something’s got to budge. So budge he did.Unable to heed the stop signs they finally got in the hamlet of Lakeport, he traded the beloved ghost town of his youth for the biggest city in the country. Of course, he left room in his suitcase for the values and history he grew up with. You can take the boy out of the country but. . . You get the picture. So he ended up in the city playing with everyone, everywhere. Since then the list looks like a who’s who of what’s going on in Canada.Adam was the longtime drummer for the other-worldly crazy rock and roll armada known as White Cowbell Oklahoma. He is also a former member of pop sensation The Golden Dogs. He was even a founding member of African group Radio Nomad (winner of Music Africa’s Band of the Year award in 2000.) He has performed and/or recorded with members of the Barenaked Ladies, Sloan, the Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea, Moist- really any major Canadian act who didn’t move to southern California in the mid to late 60’s. Touring extensively through North America, Europe and the U.K. he has played everywhere from the Cavern Club to CBGB’s to Bospop to SXSW and all points in between. Along the way he has shared festival stages with artists such as Iron Maiden, Joe Cocker, Peter Frampton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roger Hodgson, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, G Love and Special Sauce, The Drive-by Truckers, Alanis Morrisette, Nashville Pussy and John Lee Hooker Jr. He’s played to 40,000 ecstatic fans. He’s played to volatile biker gangs. You name ...
