They evoke an image of God’s love that is never-ending. “I grew up on the coast of Florida, so I spent a lot of time at the beach. I was always amazed at waves and their never-ending nature. When you get knocked over by a wave, you stand up and wipe off your face, and there comes another one to knock you down again. So when I heard in a sermon how God’s love is like waves in the ocean, it totally clicked with me.”In order to understand God’s love, we must first understand our sin, the fact that we are completely separated from God. We were born in sin, and we cannot possibly work our way out of it. Despite the fact that our society tells us we can become better people by doing good things or thinking positively, the Bible teaches us that God is the one who does the changing in our lives. This was done by Jesus’s death so many years ago.“I was reading in John chapter 13 where Jesus washes his disciples feet, and I was blown away by His statement, ‘Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.’ These simple but very profound words sum up the essence of the gospel message – that Jesus came to clean up the dirt that is in our lives. We can’t clean ourselves, no matter how hard we try.”Our response to Jesus’ death will take us in one of two directions. We can ignore it and continue walking down the same old trail we have been on. Or we can follow Him as He changes our path completely and puts us on the road Brent and Michaela sing about in “New Road”.“I think the reason ‘New Road’ has been resonating so well with people is because it’s a universal concept of seeking change in our lives.
