Then add songs drenched with infectious melodies, citing influences from Sly & The Family Stone, Squeeze, and Steely Dan to Jamiroquai, Sublime, and Maroon 5. Mix in a truckload of unbridled enthusiasm, and you have RHBC. They have found a way to naturally blend classic and neo-soul dance grooves, catchy-yet-sophisticated pop hooks, and modern rock into a sound of their own. How about over 700 live performances...three amazing CDs of original material...being selected out of 800 regional bands to perform at Philadelphia's legendary Trocadero Club in Disc Makers' Independent Music World Series...opening up for BB King and Buddy Guy at New Jersey's 10,000-seat PNC Bank Arts Center. Lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Don Lee and drummer/vocalist Ken Masson co-founded RHBC a few years back, bringing their unique brand of rock-n-soul and funk-n-roll to the masses. In 2004, bassist Ryan "Bones" Hackett and vocalist/percussionist/flutist Karen Cassidy joined the fold, cementing the current lineup. Keyboardist Sir Dennis Nanton and saxophonist Steve Hackett occasionally jam with the band at live shows. Conviccion, de "Los Guerreros Valientes"Solido, agresivo y profundo son solo algunos de los adjetivos que podemos utilizar para describir el grupo de "reggae roots" Gomba Jahbari. Compuesto por ocho talentosos músicos oriundos de San Juan, esta banda comenzo a dar sus primeros pasos para el año 1998 cuando dos amigos de la infancia, Carmelo Romero (baterÃa y voz principal) y Miguel Lampon (guitarra) deciden juntarse para emprender un proyecto musical basado en la simpleza del ritmo "reggae roots" jamaiquino. Su meta primordial; rescatar este estilo de música caribeña del desfase en que se encierra en la actualidad. Este proceso de rescate toma forma definitiva con la plasmacion de sus ideales en su primera produccion discográfica titulada Sentemonos, la cual fue lanzada de forma independiente a mediados del 2003 bajo su propio sello discográfico Gomba Music. Este disco cuenta con 14 canciones cargadas de letras con contenido social y humanista. "Queremos crear un revolucion en el interior de cada persona que nos escuche. La gente siempre debe buscarle el lado bonito a la vida, pero como todo lo bueno que queremos cuesta entonces no nos queda más remedio que luchar por ello" expresa Alberto Nieves, "lead guitar".Gomba Jahbari, que significa guerrero valiente en un dialecto tribal del sur de Ãfrica, cuenta con una gama de influencias de grupos de "reggae" que van desde los mÃticos Bob Marley y Peter Tosh hasta grupos como ASWAD, Burning Spear y The Itals. Con mucho esfuerzo y dedicacion han logrado sobresalir exitosamente dentro del circuito del "reggae roots" en Puerto Rico a puro pulmon como decimos los puertorriqueños. Se mantienen bien activos y son acogidos por numerosos fanáticos y amantes del genero. A tal recibimiento se han dado a la tarea de continuar fomentando sus ideales con el lanzamiento de su segundo disco titulado Conviccion que salio al mercado la primera semana de febrero de este año. El disco fue grabado durante el transcurso del 2004 en los estudios Elastic Module Lab y su mezcla se realizo en los estudios Lion & Fox en Washigton, DC. La mezcla estuvo a cargo de Jim Fox, quien ha trabajado con Israel Vibrations y Culture en el pasado. This best of Galactic is in a sense the best way to check them out. While their three previous studio albums all had more than enough moments that were compelling, they never quite held it together for an entire set. Live at Tipitina's was a fine set, but it didn't really capture the Galactic live experience. To be honest, Stanton Moore's solo records were more consistent.
