| | Derek Lassiter Witness CD Derek Lassiter Discography of CDs
Derek Lassiter’s Witness offers up a breath of fresh air for fans of soul music. The CD delivers a sound that is earthy, percussion-driven, spiritual and sensual. From the edgy opening track “Hunger” to the jazz-driven “I’ll Grow,” Lassiter’s poetic songs are ultimately rooted in Africa and Africa-America: the church and the drum. Featured collaborations include Tom Freund, long-time song writing partner of Ben Harper and Louisiana Blues legend Lady Mem’fis.Lassiter’s Witness takes listeners on an emotional autobiographical journey. "Well, I had an unusual upbringing," Lassiter muses when asked about his lyrical content. "I was born in the South Bronx, but after a series of dramatic family events, I soon found myself bouncing around the foster-home system in rural and suburban Pennsylvania. Reconciling those hugely influential, yet vastly differing environments has been the task of a lifetime. With Witness, I feel I've finally made the soundtrack to my life." Witness bristles with an earthy, organic energy. Latin, Asian, and African percussion abound, along with jazzy guitar, bass, keyboards, and Lassiter's church-evoking, poetic vocals. For the past 15 years, Lassiter has been a fixture on the San Francisco arts scene, acting in an assortment of well-received plays (including James Baldwin's The Amen Corner, and Erin's Hope by local playwright Ian Walker), and fronting bands (from hard rock to soul) at top San Francisco venues like Slim's and The Great American Music Hall. | | Melanie Fiona Bridge CD (2009)
Witness CD music
$8.79 Melanie Fiona's debut single, "Give It to Me Right," was a perfect 2009 pop-R&B recording. The single coupled a timeless classic (the Zombies' "Time of the Season") with roof-raising vocals and infectious pop hooks that stuck like peanut butter. Fiona's single was perfect, albeit a touch formulaic. Because of this, it's no surprise that a large chunk of her debut album, THE BRIDGE, is much of the same. ...
| | 50 Cent Before I Self-Destruct CDs (2007) With DVD
Witness music CDs
$11.19 Released without the usual flurry of hype, Before I Self Destruct fulfills 50 Cent's contractual obligation to the Interscope label. It also doubles as a throwback album, returning the rapper to the hunger and hatred of his early mixtapes while skillfully recasting him as a wannabe upstart. That is, for the most part. The four radio-friendly bedroom numbers that conclude the album are out of place but fairly good to dime-piece beautiful, with the best being the Ne-Yo showcase "Baby by Me" ("Have a baby by me, baby/Be a millionaire"). As pleasing as these final numbers are, if you leave the room after the macho bruiser "I Got Swag" ("I'm infinitely special/Girl the Lord is gonna bless you/If you do what I tell you to do"), you'll return to a confusingly different album, one that's as glamorous but less vital. The monstrous run of tracks that leads up to this flash and polish can be summed up by 50's "This ain't Tha Carter/It's Sparta!," a witty, deceptive, and brutish line barked over a prime Dr. Dre beat during the great "Death to My Enemies." On the cut, the producer sounds like he's been digging on RZA, but the tension and dark-night feel he has created for "Psycho" is easily identifiable as Dre. Add an especially rapid 50 trading horror-show rhymes with Eminem and the G-Unit soldiers will ...

This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
The first double-CD of original material by a rap artist, ALL EYEZ ON ME marks 2Pac's return from incarceration to the recording grind. And though Tupac Shakur may have spent the better part of 1995 locked up and battling the system, the album makes it obvious that, rather than degenerating his artistic abilities, the struggles have only elevated his skills. Now, with the backing of West Coast hip-hop's first family, Death Row Records, 2Pac gathers together many of the rap ruling class to celebrate his comeback and give the finger to those who've scrutinized his ...

| | Sco I Can Do This CD (2005)
Witness songs
$14.79 Stayin Hi Records was founded in 1994 by Roscoe Kellam A.K.A. Sco. This pioneer of rap music has been in the industry since the age of 14. During his career, he has released ten albums independently pushing an impressive 40,000 units hand to hand. Although he is originally from Pontiac, Michigan, the fan base ranges from Midwestern states such as Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and all the way down south to Mississippi, Georgia and Texas. This hip-hop phenomenon's talent and energy far surpasses that of the average rapper. The history begins in 1994 when Sco teamed up with his long-time friend Melo to release, All bizzness. Although it was the first album, it sold quite a few records. The second album launched was called Life in the Yac. It sold a massive number throughout the Midwest. In 1997, a hot single titled In the Ghetto, that featured the Frizzo Crew, put him on the map. Furthermore, originator dropped Pimp in the Yac that sold thousands of copies which gave him mad exposure through the states. Later in the years, Sco was managed by Harmony Entertainment in West Virginia. After six months of tutelage, he returned to his hometown to pursue his love for rap. By 2000, the lyricist was holding his own fan base and dropping albums back to back such as Anotha Day Anotha Dolla, Networkin, Greatest ...

$13.15 Simply put, this album is Gospel R&B that speaks for itself. This is the type of CD you will play beginning to end and then start it over.
