Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Welcome To Woody Creek CD (2004)
How the West Was Swung, Vol. 14: Live at Scotty's International Guitar Show St. Louis, CD music There was a time when the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and other West Coast country-rockers were viewed with suspicion by some members of the Nashville establishment, but times change -- and these days, country radio play lists are full of artists whose work has been greatly influenced by the country-rock that came out of Southern California in the '60s and '70s. So as it turns out, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Linda Ronstadt, and the Eagles (who the Dirt Band greatly influenced) were ahead of their time. But while much of the country-rock that's coming out of Nashville in the 21st century is extremely contrived and formulaic, the Dirt Band hasn't lost any of its organic, earthy charm -- charm that is alive and well on Welcome to Woody Creek, which finds the durable outfit celebrating its 39th anniversary with a lineup consisting of Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Ibbotson, Bob Carpenter, Jimmie Fadden, and John McEuen. After all these years, the Dirt Band still sounds current; Welcome to Woody Creek isn't radically different from a lot of the country-rock that country stations played in '90s and 2000s. The differences between this 2004 release and all the Eagles-minded, Ronstadt-obsessed artists on modern country radio have to do with execution and delivery more than anything; Welcome to Woody Creek has a certain warmth and sincerity that many of Nashville's slick nu-country artists are missing. This CD doesn't sound like the product of 500 marketing meetings but rather like the work of five country-rock veterans who keep performing because they genuinely enjoy what they do. Welcome to Woody Creek isn't as essential as the Dirt Band's best '60s and '70s recordings; nonetheless, it's a solid, respectable outing that will please die-hard fans of the veteran country-rockers. ~ Alex Henderson

Andre Delano My So Fine CD (2008)
How the West Was Swung, Vol. 14: Live at Scotty's International Guitar Show St. Louis, album for sale After the release of his popular debut Full Circle in 2005, this extraordinarily soulful, emotional, old-school R&B vibing saxman -- who has toured with Maxwell, the Osmonds and Lionel Richie, and opened shows for Peabo Bryson and urban jazz greats George Duke, Boney James, Norman Brown, Kenny G, and Peter White, said the way to change the face of smooth jazz was to "bring in new faces and be bold enough to take a chance." Joined by genre hitmakers like Greg Adams (on the sensuous Latin-vibing slow dance gem "First Dance") and Kevin Toney (the midtempo, hypnotic retro-soul of "Saultie"), he more than lives up to that promise on this multi-faceted, hook-filled collection. Beyond asserting himself as a diverse urban saxman whose soaring melodies and spirited grooves are matched only by his keen sense of improvisational passion, he's unabashedly in the sex and love business on My So Fine. He goes joyfully Latin (from the get-go, with the punchy sizzle of "Sista Caliente"), then candlelit and romantic and, at times, even gets a little crazy, progressive and jamming ("JSU Jam," a boisterous shout out to his alma mater, Jackson State University). Not that he needs to impress us further, but Delano proves himself a formidable modern R&B singer on a batch of tracks that offer a beautiful balance to the instrumental fun. Living up to its title (though it was intended for a romantic interest), My So Fine is a true star making turn for one of urban jazz's brightest young lights. ~ Jonathan Widran

Tony Green Mercy Through This Perilous Mischance CD (2009)
How the West Was Swung, Vol. 14: Live at Scotty's International Guitar Show St. Louis, album for sale This is Tony's first solo album . He has played bass on numerous CD's over the past twenty years for other artists but has never produced his own. Tony, with the help of other very talented musicians whom he has worked with over the years, has produced an album that will take the listener on a journey of beautiful landscapes and unexpected turns. At times, the music is reminiscent of the churning grooves heard on Brian Eno's and David Byrne's 'My Life in the Bush of Ghosts', while another track evokes elements found in David Sylvian's more ambient works.
Tony took the liberty to explore his primary instruments, acoustic and electric basses, in various roles, sometimes melodic, sometimes hypnotic grooves, and sometimes freely improvised musical statements. He also incorporated his musical skill with loops, samples, guitars, and smattering of offbeat toys laying around his studio.
