The Flipmasters consist of three primary members:Lil BitC-Lo SaineD.A.C.All members met in high school after Lil Bit moved from Atlanta to Birmingham, then finally to Thomasville, Alabama. Lil Bit's father comes from a family of musicians and had been encouraging her to be innovative with her hip hop abilities. After a few months at Thomasville High School, she hooked up with C-Lo Saine. The two met while preparing for a talent show. From there, they began to work together in the Spring of 2003. In just a few months, they released "ALABAMA" to local radio stations and created a big buzz between Alabama and Mississippi. From there, the duo cut an EP of six songs to keep their presence strong while they planned a full album project. To begin their album project, they knew they needed more people to work with; so D.A.C., a friend of C-Lo Saine's was added to form a trio. With their popularity they were able to find some of the brightest talent in the area to perform as guests on the album. In the Spring of 2004, they were ready to cut their debut CD, "The First." The album features all 'homemade beats,' and all original music. There are no samples and no sound-a-likes. Their music is largely due to Lil Bit's musical talents and her friend Jacobi Thompson. The cd was release in mid June 2004. Locally, sales of the cd were considered unheard. The group moved over 400 units in one week-- all within 50 miles of their hometown. This is surely something to brag about---and the buzz was on fire from there. They have been performing, everywhere from Thomasville to Montgomery to Atlanta, GA, with no plans to stop. As a matter of fact, the group is gearing for an agressive high school tour this fall, which will bring to some of the biggest high schools in the southern region. Their debut cd, "The First" is a strong indicator that these guys will be chased by music industry moguls before they finish their senior year of high school. Flipmasters: their sound is youthful and 'way too mature' at the same time. They hope to make themselves the postergroup for finally recognizing the artistic talents of native Alabamians and help make the state a driving force in the music industry. For more information, contact: Randall Davis 205-275-5477 Onstage@flipmasters.com or Brad Sims 334-636-1637. | | Hall & Oates Do What You Want Be What You Are: The Music of Daryl Hall John Oates CDs (2009)
First
$38.65 It's telling that DO WHAT YOU WANT TO BE WHAT YOU ARE, Sony/Legacy's comprehensive, career-spanning Daryl Hall and John Oates box set, takes its title from a moderately successful mid-'70s single from the duo, written and recorded just as the group was hitting their creative stride. The slow Philly groove of "Do What You Want Be Who You Are" may have hearkened back to the duo's soul roots, side-stepping some of the outré pop experiments they had done just two years earlier on War Babies, but Hall & Oates took the title's sentiment to heart, blurring boundaries between rock, pop, and soul in a way that wasn't always easy to appreciate at the peak of their popularity in the '80s. During that decade, Hall & Oates were omnipresent, seemingly dominating every radio format and MTV, racking up so many hits that it was easy to overlook how "Private Eyes" wore bright, angular New Wave threads, or how "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" pulsated on electronic rhythms, not ...
| | Portishead Dummy CD (1994)
First
$11.49 Named for a town near Bristol, England, Portishead is a British dance band that grabs ideas from all over the mod pop world (spaghetti Western guitars, turntable scratching, melancholy soul vocals, atmospheric organs, house beats) and stirs them into spacey, dub-like productions that sound like a dance club in the middle of a "Twin Peaks" dream. You could call it surreal hip-hop pop. But if the beats on ...
| | Sean Rasul Showcase CD (2005)
First
$10.15 THE SHOWCASE is the debut release by Chicago's latest soul man, Sean Rasul. Produced entirely by Grammy Award winning songwriter/producer, Madukwu Chinwah, who has also created hits for Erykah Badu and N'Dambi, the album is an inspiring effort that blends old and new school music elements and features wonderful Spoken Word poetry, Hip-Hop, and smooth urban grooves. When listening to, THE SHOWCASE, Sean Rasul takes us on a journey through the "hood" as he opens the album with the inspirational Spoken Word piece, WHO I BE, followed by the Curtis Mayfield inspired, BEAUTIFUL, which Rasul sings in a high falsetto. The song, RIDE WITH ME, features underground rapper, Big Sid, of Playaz Choice Entertainment. SENORITA/SENOR has an upbeat, pop music sound, with a little Hip-Hop and Latin flavor. The song features recording artist and Mexican songstress, Gibeth, who has been called "the best Latin female to hit the music scene since Selena." SUPERMODEL, which features Madukwu Chinwah, is a tribute to the beautiful women who grace the runways of the fashion world. The song, BYE MAMA, is a touch of the blues, as Rasul's soulful vocals, complimented by the outstanding acoustic guitar play of Chinwah, is a fitting end to the album which leaves the listener inspired and infected by the dose of realism that Sean Rasul delivers in this future classic. This album is a must-have for the soul music collector.REVIEWS:An eclectic blend of socially conscious street poetry and progressive hip-hop. The sound is a dash of Prince with ...

First
$12.65 No stage can contain the energy of 12 Cents for Marvin and audiences would have it no other way. Formed in their college days nearly a decade ago, the band has grown as individuals and musicians. Ska/reggae/rock is a quick but incomplete way to describe the 12 Cents sound. It must be experienced to be understood. The band named itself after meeting Marvin, a colorful street character panhandling and following a mathematical formula requiring him to receive twelve cents per person he met.Since then, 12 Cents has been voted Best Band in the region multiple years in a row. Recognition continued when the band garnered first place in Colorado's Scene Magazine's Battle of the Bands. Gaining this recognition early in the band's career laid a solid foundation ...
