On "The Road Home", jazz guitarist Pat Kelley surrounds himself with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as John Patitucci, Gary Novak, Tim Landers, Gary Herbig, David Witham, Michael Shapiro, and more. After touring for five years with George Benson, George wrote the back cover liner notes which read:"Pat's latest effort shows his versatility and why he is so likeable and easy to work with. I'm glad to see that Pat is expressing himself through the jazz medium which he loves. Pats chops allow him to move about with ease and freedom and show his musical experiences to be broad. I even enjoy his vocals here and I am sure you will too. If this isn't enough, Pat has surrounded himself with nothing less that some of the best musicians around today. Right on Pat!"Brian Robb of Compact Disc Review wrote:"This recording is incredible. Guitarist Pat Kelley has outstanding chops and his phrasing and dynamics are slammin'."Josef Woodard of Jazziz Magazine wrote:"Kelley's writing and soloing get to the heart of the matter."
Recorded at Ocean Way, Hollywood, California and the Slamm Shack, North Hollywood, California. Includes liner notes by George Benson.

Road Home album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You ...

| | Norah Jones Come Away With Me CD (2002) SACD Hybrid
Road Home music CDs
$16.05 COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
"Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that discreetly ...

$10.49 Following LOST & FOUND, an album that earned Ledisi a pair of Grammy nominations, TURN ME LOOSE partially roots itself in the singer's past work and otherwise branches out from it. The album's title, as well as its cover, indicates a new, brash direction--one ...
| | Dexter Gordon Swedish Nights CDs (Import) Import; Denmark
Road Home music CDs
$24.49 While living in Europe, France, and Denmark, to be exact, Dexter Gordon made many recordings for the Steeplechase label, in studios and on trips to Switzerland and Sweden, performing with "local" rhythm sections and some American expatriates like himself. A regular partner for the tenor saxophonist in the early to mid-'70s was the quite able pianist Lars Sjösten, who was able to keep up with Gordon in terms of both musicianship and stamina. For these dates live in Sweden, Gordon really elongates ...

| | Billie Holiday Miss Brown To You 1933-1936 CD (1996) (Import) United Kingdom
Road Home album
$20.29 MISS BROWN TO YOU is noteworthy for the fact that it includes Holiday's very first recordings. The earliest, "Your Mother's Son In Law" and "Riffin' The Scotch," were recorded with Benny Goodman's orchestra (including Jack Teagarden and Gene Krupa) in 1933. The rest of the album includes work with the Duke Ellington and Teddy Wilson Orchestras. It's difficult to pinpoint these tracks as Lady Day's first however, since she emerges here, if not fully formed, then as an already stunningly distinctive stylist.
She approaches vocal phrasing with the sensitivity of an instrumentalist--from the sly swing of "Eeny Meeny Miney Mo" to the up-front seduction of "It's Too Hot For Words." The songs are firmly rooted in the swing era, and it is a pleasure to hear Holiday ...

| | Retrospectacle: The Supertramp Anthology CDs (2005) Remastered
Road Home music CDs
$15.09 An impressive two-disc, 22-track collection, RETROSPECTACLE presents Supertramp's finest moments from 1970 to 2002. The set wisely focuses on the British pop/rock group's late-'70s heyday (including the breezy hits "Give a Little Bit" and "Take the Long Way Home"), while still acknowledging the band's prog-rock roots (the almost Eno-esque "Land Ho") and latter-day material (the jaunty "You Win, I Lose"). For those seeking a more comprehensive overview than that offered by THE VERY BEST OF SUPERTRAMP, RETROSPECTACLE is ideal.
Audio Mixers: Geoff Emerick; Mark Ettel; Tom Anderson ; Tom Lord-Alge; Steve McMillan.
