| | Prince Mantee Tears Of Oppression CD Prince Mantee Discography of CDs
Prince Mantee was born in the mountains surrounding Montego Bay, Jamaica, in the West Indies. Prince Mantee has been ginving praises to Jah since he was a young man, long before experiencing a "vision" of expressing his love of Jah through his roots-style reggae music in 1982. After teaching himself to play an acoustic guitar and forming the Blackstar Reggae band, he began writing his own lyrics, reminiscent of the ways and teachings of his own upbringing in Hopeton, Jamaica. The Blackstar Reggae band was formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1982 by Prince Mantee, and included Wisconsin area musicians who wished to praise and spread the word of Jah. Since that time, the composition of the band has changed, with the current members bringing a diversity of cultural backgrounds and musical influences. The band members wish to express the message ooof positivism, love and unity through their music. Tears Of Oppression is their most recent CD, with lyrics which speak of social injustices and tribulations, as well as the common realities involved in our social relationships. | | Toasters Dub 56 CD (1994)
Tears Of Oppression music CDs
$8.79 It had been a roller coaster ride for The Toasters, slogging up the ladder of success only to have their label go down, prompting three of their members to quit, and leaving the band floundering. Picking themselves up, the remaining group brought in new recruits, found a new label, Pork Pie, and new determination with bandleader Bucket setting out to turn Moon Ska into America's premier ska label. The pay-off finally came in 1993. By then, the ska scene was on the verge of breaking into the mainstream, and excitement electrified the air. No album captured the sheer exuberance of this time like Dub 56. The entire set is a rambunctious celebration of ska and, from the opening note to the closing refrain 14 tracks later, the listener is drawn into a party that just doesn't want to end. Although recorded in the studio, the band play like they're standing in front of an ecstatic hometown crowd, and eager to deliver up a set worthy of that adoration. "Direction" jubilantly sets the stage with anthemic abandon, "Mona" kicks it up a few more notches, its irrepressible melody and swing styling pulling ...

Tears Of Oppression CD music
$18.99 'AKILA BARRETT'Jah Is A Light Man SalvationThere Was A Voice From Creation Say how do we Earn Our Bread ERROL BARRETT (a.k.a. Akila Barrett) singer, musician and songwriter, is the son of the late CARLTON BARRETT, drummer with the original WAILERS band that backed BOB MARLEY, and nephew of ASTON Family Man BARRETT, also of the WAILERS. Music has been in Akila's blood since birth. Much of his knowledge of life and learning came from growing up surrounded by his father and uncle in the center of the most famous creators of Jamaican Reggae music. With such an upbringing, it was clear from an early age that Akila was destined to be a musical force to be reckoned with. He began his career in 1994 as drummer with Julian Marley's backing band.In the past 6 years he has developed his multi-instrument talents, song-writing and performing skills to great advantage, earning self-confidence as well as in-depth knowledge of the music business in the process. Akila spends a great deal of his time with his acoustic Guitar strapped by his side, discovering his own unique voice and sense of style. He soon began boxing a riddim on his guitar to assist him with singing and writing lyrically redeeming songs about personal views and recent life experiences. Akila's first release 'HUMAN RACE' got him considerable airplay and interviews on radio shows and music magazines as far as Jamaica, South Africa, Ghana, London and France. The single is distributed on his own label ONE DROP MUZIC and features an enticing electric guitar solo by Junior Marvin. Finally, it was time for Akila Barrett to pour his lifetime experiences and talent into an album. To spearhead this potentially enlightening CD, Akila selected Tuff Gong Studio as the highly spirited training ground for him to expose the breadth of his talent and perfect the texture of his voice. At Tuff Gong he gathered around him some of the best veteran musicians Jamaica has to offer, including the renowned Wailers Band, Earl Chinna Smith, ...
