In a game of "Telephone", one child whispers a message to the child sitting next to her, who in turn whispers the message to the child sitting next to him, who in turn whispers the message to yet a fourth child, and so on until the message has been whispered to the last child in the queue. By the time the message reaches its destination, the final child, it has generally undergone significant change. We were intrigued by this idea, so we did it - see how or just listen. Imagine, now, a game of "Telephone" where the message is conveyed via music rather than speech. Like speech, the tune is passed to the next musician in line, listened to and re-composed, and so on. When played for the last time, the music will have changed as drastically as the message in the childrens' game. In addition, if you have the means to capture each re-play of the song, you not only have the difference between the original song and the last, but all of the versions in between. | | Prodigy Fat Of The Land CD (1997)
Ring Steppers CD music
$9.79 FAT OF THE LAND was nominated for a 1998 Grammy for Best Rock Album.
Among the most anticipated releases of 1997, The Prodigy's third full-length album is a bulldozing rock-techno hybrid. But while the guitar/samples/hyper-beats mosaic that made "Firestarter" an MTV breakout are found in every nook and cranny of this ...
| | Four Horsemen Gettin' Pretty Good...At Barely Gettin' By CD (1996)
Ring Steppers music CDs
$9.59 The Four Horsemen were quite literally a shattered band come 1996. Five years on from their simplistic but infectious retro-rock debut, they'd been dropped by Def American, been abandoned by their main songwriter guiding force in founding guitarist Haggis, and, most heartbreaking of all, lost drummer Ken "Dimwit" Montgomery to a drug overdose. As the band's last ...

Ring Steppers CD music
$11.95 Bristol's trip-hop pioneers crystallize their melancholic splendor on PROTECTION. It's a simmering shadow of a soundtrack to urban life, where dub, hip-hop, electronica and soul mesh into something quite singular. Imagine the chilling threnody of scene-mates Portishead allied with rough dancehall, club and South Bronx bass-beats, set ablaze by Mushroom, 3-D and Daddy-G's sour ...

Ring Steppers songs
$6.55 Includes liner notes by Tom Vickers (former P-Funk Minister Of Imformation).
Parliament was one arm in George Clinton's funk army during the 70s, a large conglomeration of groups and musicians (including Bootsy's Rubber Band, Funkadelic, The Horny Horns and others) dedicated to rewriting the rules of funk, soul and rock. Clinton's bands sounded like James Brown gone mad, partly because of the inclusion of former JB sidemen Bootsy Collins, Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, ...

| | More Or Les Truth About Rap CD (2007)
Ring Steppers music CDs
$14.79 With the 2006 release of The Truth About Rap, Toronto emcee More Or Les dishes out another healthy serving of his trademark socially conscious alternative to materialistic 'thug rap.' Says Scott C. of the Montreal Mirror, "More or Les is a real jack of all trades, crafting funky, sample-heavy beats backed with well-delivered cornball rhymes strictly for the haters." Serious one moment, joking the next, More Or Les commands audiences to think and shake it, never apologizing for his point of view or his stick-in-your-head rhymes. The release of The Truth About Rap catches More Or Les between European touring engagements with The Herbaliser. Currently slated to record with the supergroup this July between festival performances in Belgium and France, More or Les connected with The Herbaliser over three shows (Toronto, Ottawa & Montreal) on their 2005 Canadian tour and a weeklong gig in London, UK in November. More Or Les toured two editions of his debut album I only stop for the Red Ants between 2003 and 2005. A critical success, Red Ants also generated an embarrassment of new performance and recording opportunities. In addition to IOSFTRA and The Truth About Rap, Les can be found emceeing on tracks by the UK's Bryn 'Dusty' Griffiths, Toronto's Rhymicru, SJ the Wordburglar and Mindbender, and West Coasters Ndidi Cascade, Green TaRA and Dragon Fli Empire. (For complete credits, please visit moreorles. ca/discs. )IOSFTRA also generated a video, A Little Too Much Weed, produced by Soft Citizen (dir. : Matt Eastman) in 2004. The video earned a coveted screening at The 2004 NEXT Festival, honoring the year's most innovative international videos and was aired on Book TV but was ultimately deemed too controversial for MuchMusic. Today it enjoys viral popularity on YouTube. (To view A Little Too Much Weed, please visit moreorles. ca/media. )More Or Les' decade-long performance ...
