The Pinecones hail from Oakland, California, where hail is rare. Over the years, their eclecticism and near-competence have won them a legion of indifferent listeners around the world. The core of the band coalesced at KZSC-FM in Santa Cruz, California during the heyday of college rock. Andy, Phil and Michael were lucky enough to enjoy shows by local phenoms like Camper Van Beethoven, Spot 1019 and Drew Waegel and His Amazing Sta-Puff Dream Weasels. Then there were the trips to San Francisco to see the legendary Voice Farm and such out-of-towners as They Might Be Giants and The Pixies. It was such a great time. Better than now, that's for sure. Now the Cones are all jaded, bitter malcontents with adult responsibilities like day jobs, mortgages and kids. Unable to appreciate the sublimities of nu-metal and britney spears, every day they grow more despondent about the state of music. "In *my* day," they'll try to tell you as you back slowly away, "music *meant* something. It was smart, weird, politically engaged and catchy."In a futile attempt to bring back the feeling of quirky fun and camaraderie they enjoyed in the golden days of the late 80's, the Pinecones cobbled together a bunch of originals and a Flaming Lips song and went into the studio to record their masterpiece, "Shirley Kramer."Relentless touring to promote the album throughout 2001 has kept the band out of the studio for over a year, and if they ever finish responding personally to each and every piece of fan mail they receive, they may write some new songs. In the meantime, we're stuck with Shirley, and for that we can be eternally grateful. Pinecones Shirley Kramer Songs | 1. | Pinecones Overture |

$13.05 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair ...

$15.65 With its titanic guitar solos, symphonic suites, and multi-layered melodies, Muse's fifth album operates under the assumption that bigger is better. This is the very definition of a super-sized album, an album that takes its cues from Queen, its lyrics from science fiction novels, and its delivery from rock opera. It's also the first time that Muse has truly sounded like Muse, as few bands since Queen have so readily explored the intersection of bombast and extravagance. THE RESISTANCE ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Shirley Kramer album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play ...

$17.09 'Refreshing' is the word most often used to describe the music of Nori & Barbie Kelley. Known as 'WIND,' Nori & Barbie have recently moved to the Colorado Springs area after having been based in Japan since October 2003. Being songwiters as well as musicians, they have a wealth of original material between them. Their concerts showcase both their songwriting and musical abilities, with Barbie singing, playing flute, percussion & acoustic guitar, and Nori singing and playing electric and acoustic guitars & lap steel. Married since 1993, Nori and Barbie also own and operate 'Forestgreen Studio,' a digital multi-track project studio, where they record local artists and teach guitar & flute lessons. They're also listed in the 'Encyclopedia Of Contemporary Christian Music,' published in 2003.Born in Japan, but raised in Alabama from age 9, Nori has been a session musician since 1979. He has recorded or performed with Jon Anderson (Yes), Dave Hope (Kansas), the Chi-Lites & Michael English, among many others. CCM magazine once compared his guitar playing to both Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and Phil Keaggy. ...
| | William Howse & Jack Pearson CD (1999)
Shirley Kramer music CDs
$18.99 "William Howse & Jack Pearson" is a 1999 Candlefly release showcasing the very special talents of two extraordinary musicians who have been playing together for more than 20 years.Jack Pearson paired up with longtime friend, William Howse, to create this authentic acoustic blues collection. William is featured on the CD on harmonica and vocals. Jack provides vocals on two songs on the disc, but for the most part plays fingerstyle guitar with lots of slide in open and standard tunings. William's harmonica playing is in the tradition of John Lee Williamson, Big Walter and Deford Bailey. And his singing is reminiscent of Muddy Waters. William is one of the few true bluesmen around today. He's played with such artists as Lonnie Mack and Tinsley Ellis. He gave a special performance at the dedication ceremony of the Tennessee Historical Marker commemorating harmonica player Deford Bailey, the first black musician to appear at the Grand Ole Opry. And William's playing was featured on the soundtrack for the TNN production of "The Life and Times of Willie Nelson."Jack is probably best known for his blues/rock lead and slide guitar playing with The Allman Brothers Band from 1997 to 1999. But on this CD, he plays acoustic and resonator guitars. He fills the disc with solid, swinging rhythm and blistering slide using a hambone. Through the years, the acoustic duo has shared the bill of festivals and theatres with performers such as The Fairfield Four, Johnny Shines, Yank Rachell, The Nashville Bluegrass Band and Willie Eason. They've also played for ...
