dawne is a respected musician in london and has had the pleasure of working with some great, inspirational artists such as lionel richie. along the way she has been encouraged to record and release her own vocal material. for many reason's 'the right time' seemed further away - until now. excited by the opportunitues offered to her, dawne realised the combination of being a vocalist and percussionist within a live performance would be an exciting performance that even she'd like to see!so the album, 'assume nothing' came out of that encouragement... a collection of songs written over the years combined with some new, to create this emotionally telling debut album. "i'm really proud of this album' says dawne `" it's an album, which touches you in one way or another, and remains with you until you play it again. friends chill to it, dance to it, party to it - it fits into wherever you may find yourself in your life, at any time.........."dawne emphasises the 'live' aspect that this album offers in the form of a show and looks forward to making that happen. $13.49 This late 1968 release seemed innocent enough at the time; and actually, it was a sincere effort to use a then newly-practical interpretive instrument, the Moog synthesizer, in a decidedly traditional musical manner. Indeed, at the time, it was simply extending -- in a somewhat more forward-thinking direction -- the kind of attention that had been devoted to Johann Sebastian Bach's music as early as 1782, barely over 30 years after the composer's death, when Mozart wrote a set of string trio arrangements of some of Bach's keyboard works. Heard 40 years on, the approach here seems very tame and formal, but in 1968 it offended some Baroque purists (of whom there were relatively few) and a lot of classical music Luddites (of whom there were a lot more); but it still became the first classical music LP ever to be certified for a Platinum Record Award, by selling ...

| | Christene LeDoux Little Lighthouse CD (2003)
Assume Nothing
$18.99 Singer/songwriters are such a prolific breed it sometimes becomes difficult to separate them from one another. Christene LeDoux shares a number of singer/songwriter qualities, including introspective folk-based music sung with a strong emotional undercurrent. In "Sweet Patty," for instance, a mother offers advice to the young girl she's abandoned, and when the girl grows up and has children and grandchildren of her own, she learns to cherish her mother's wisdom. While this particular song works well thanks to a winning melody, material like this can grow a bit cloying over an entire album. Songs like "Daddy's Café," however, seem to create a portrait that runs closer to Americana, separating LeDoux from other self-absorbed writers. Perhaps it's about her own father, but it doesn't really matter as far as the success of the song goes. It could be about anyone's father, and that gives it a universal quality. LeDoux's cover of "Landslide" is commendable for going its own way, but her adventurous vocal seems to stray too far from the melody line. Unfortunately, the best material of Little Lighthouse is front-loaded, and a similar slow pacing bogs down the last two-thirds of the album. Little Lighthouse shows potential, and on cuts like "The Entertainer," LeDoux shows that she can separate herself from the singer/songwriter pack. ~ Ronnie D. Lankford Jr.
