Along with producer/engineer Gary Brandt and with the help of Phil Collen on guitars as well as many friends, we have recorded 14 songs going from sultry ballad to harder hitting rock, always with melody at the forefront, yet with a generous amount of humor thrown in for good measure. BIOGRAPHYConroy was born in the village of Graysfarm, ST. Johns Antigua. At the age of 13, Conroy and his family moved to ST. Thomas V.I. where they settled on the southeastern part of the island. It was at this stage of his development that he realized his interest in music and his ability to perform for others. He would often sing while tapping on school desk and the dining table at home. A few years later, at age 15 or 16, he picked up his older brother's guitar that was left at home and began teaching himself to play the guitar. This led to his involvement with other young musicians from the area that had similar ambitions. They later formed a band called "The Explosions". After high school, and with the guidance of his older brother Alfred, Conroy auditioned and was accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts where he earned a professional in music diploma in arranging and composition in 1977. In 1985 he attended Herbert H. Lehman College in New York, where he received a bachelor of science degree in music.The Berklee College of Music environment was a positive experience for Conroy. While studying and honing his skills, he was fortunate to be exposed to some of the best and most talented musicians and artist in the business both on and off campus. While at Berklee, Conroy performed extensively on the local Boston music scene and at one point leading his own group 'True Culture. ' He also performed and toured with a top Boston gospel choir R.I.C.C, and journeyed with them to 'Festac 77' in Lagos Nigeria. During this time Conroy traveled to New York City to perform with the 'Jaguars. ' This band backed up some of the Caribbean biggest stars, such as the Mighty Sparrow, Arrow, Swallow, Lord Observer and Calypso Rose. In 1978 Conroy Returned to St. Thomas where he first started his music career. He performed extensively on the local music scene with various artist, bands and singing groups, including two of the top singing groups in the Virgin Island at that time, 'Ecstacy,' an all female group and 'he Pearls,' an all male group. He also performed with 'Mandingo Brass' and recorded with 'Eddie and the Movements,' on their debut album, 'Dread High. ' Conroy's next stop on his musical journey was 'SPLASH. ' This was a creative group that placed emphasis on being a band with a tight rhythm section and indeed it was. CD Review - "Too Stupid To Quit"Man, this is real fun stuff! The band hails from Seattle and mix humor and irreverence with a good dose of hard rocking music. Think the Mentors, but without the pornographic references! The CD begins with the ominous 'Snake.' A great guitar riff and lyrics! 'Watching Her Die' is more a heavy blues rocker with Lynne singing the lead vocal. It reminds me a bit of the early L7 stuff. Steve has a lot of cool fuzzed, phased guitar sounds and mixes them up really well on the CD. 'Drain Pipe' is a more fuzzed out garagy number and Steve's voice really reminds me of Jello Biafra. 'Headful of Lice' is a cool slow song with great words. 'Petting Zoo' is a fast song with a great bouncy bass line that really grabs you. The vocal delivery is really different on this song. 'Such a Pain' has a really deranged guitar riff and sound and again Jello comes to mind. The CD ends with the excellent title track and a great fuzz guitar. Dead Kennedys meets L7 meets the Mentors! This band is clever, funny, tongue in cheek and they rock.
