THE HOT DOGS play loud rock at unsafe speeds. Formed in 2000 in Portland, Maine, the Hot Dogs have built up a ravenous underground following with their infectious riffs, catchy melodies and outrageous stage performances. The debut album captures their signature straight-ahead garage-rock, but also includes songs that veer into the worlds of country, latin and reggae music, all with tounge-in-cheek humor and apocalyptic abandon. They have been called "Portland's most exciting band". -------------Here's what the critics say:"What do you get when you cross Iggy Pop, The Dead Milkmen, Jello Biafra, and an actual sense of melody? A hot dog. No, seriously. You actually get four." "The guitars have a fuzz that could have come straight from a '77 issue vinyl. The drums...are fast and on time, the bass is punchy, and the vocals are on target. Jeff Badger has a punk bravado that swaggers like a jilted, pissed off drunk guy. And he may be. But it sounds perfect." thenakedclef SouthofMainstream "This is punk rock at its best -old school enough to keep the old-schoolers interested, and energetic enough to hopefully wean a few kids off their steady diet of nothing" Portland Phoenix, 11/7/03 portlandphoenix "[The] playing always shifts textures, colors fly through the sonic rainbow, vocals range from Jello Biafra granduer to tortured throaty howls and in any free spaces the lead guitar crams in as many hyper-speed phrases as it can. Exhilerating." ...[the] the slouch-back-and-roll country bounce on "Bottom Of the Ocean" [is] a rock tune about as great as anything I've heard." Matt Haynes Face Magazine facemag "The Hot Dogs put the dirty back into punk." "Rather than simply copping licks and style from their heroes, the Hot Dogs take their influences...and have fun with them, make them their own." "Badger's voice is best when he takes things down a notch, his voice sounding like a cross between Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Jim Morrison, sinister crooners all. The Dogs are at their finest when they crank up the heat and shift the songs into overdrive, all chunky guitars, furious drums, and gang yells. Its a tension that plays out well." | | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Hot Dogs music CDs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, one that's as much about texture as it is about song.something perfectly appropriate for a make-out album like this. Sometimes, Mayer dips too heavily ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Hot Dogs songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," ...

| | Terry Phelps Buffalo Trax CD (2006)
Hot Dogs CD music
$12.49 'Terry has a warm, enduring stage presence and I highly recommend him for festivals or any other performances.' Doug Cox Artistic Director: Vancouver Island MusicfestOver the past ten years, Victoria singer/songwriter Terry Phelps has made three acclaimed CDs featuring his unique blend of folk, alternate country and roots rock: Northern Water (1996), Cat Sunday (1998) and Buffalo Trax (2004) recorded in his hometown of Winnipeg. His finely wrought lyrics explore themes of home, family, love and loss, and pursuit of equilibrium in one's inner life, and are informed by intelligence, humour and wry political commentary. His music's broad appeal arises in large part from his passionate, unaffected delivery of these songs. As Murray Pulver (guitarist with The Crash Test Dummies and Doc Walker) said of Terry after playing on Buffalo Trax: "I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of songwriters ...
| | Business Of Flies Kamikaze Dreamer CD (2005)
Hot Dogs music CDs
$10.15 The Business of Flies is an unpredictable journey through a rock and roll dreamscape, led by lead singers Zach Jones and Cliff Usher. After the band broke up in 2007 producer/songwriter Cliff Usher went on to form Birdlips. Here's what the University of Virginia newspaper had to say about it:Nobody's 'Business:' local band releases first, dreamily ambient albumThe Business of Flies' 'Kamikaze Dreamer' sounds like The Postal Service meets Bright EyesThe Business of Flies hails from Vienna, Va. and is composed of several University students. The album was produced, recorded, engineered and mastered by band member Cliff Usher in his bedroom here at U.Va. It is definitely evident that it was an independently produced record, but in a refreshing way. It sounds professional and still has a unique, not-overly-produced sound. In fact, the only problem I had with this album was the alarm clock used in the end of the title/introductory track; it caused intense flashbacks to 8 a.m. classes earlier in the week, which is never a good kind of nostalgia. Kamikaze Dreamer is a good album for many reasons, but I have to say the lyrics -- and one song in particular, "The Perils of Being Young and Idealistic" -- created in me an instant affinity for this album. Part of what contributes to The Business of Flies's individualistic sound is the use of violin and saxophone. They also utilize everyday objects for ambient noises. On their MySpace profile, the band describes their sound as "Bush playing songs by The Postal Service." They're close to the mark. Several songs do exhibit qualities similar to ...
