"SLAINTE" means "Cheers" in Irish Gaelic. Along these lines we toast the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, France, England, Cape Breton, the Appalachian Highlands, and traditionally inspired contemporary tunes as played in the San Francisco Bay Area.Karl takes a multi-instrumental approach to this music, playing the guitar, octave mandolin, button accordion, pennywhistle, jaw harp, and bodhran (the Irish frame drum).Peter's musical vision stems from his fascination with the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, and its distant cousin--also a member of the zither family of string instruments--the hammered dulcimer.Collectively they have played traditional Irish, American and other roots music for 5 decades, several years of this with each other, and many more performing and jamming with talented musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere."When we sit down and play, we often experience a playful, interwoven cross-cultural musical tapestry which brings us closer to Celtic musical ingenuity, Appalachian self-sufficiency, and California's musical eclecticism. We hope you, too, find something herein to enjoy!"Review:"Hi guys. I just wanted to tell you how much I like "Along Celtic Lines". I've been doing a long, complicated art project all year, and I love having your CD playing in the background. Nice work!" -Margaret Davis of Avalon Rising Slainte of San Francisco Bay Along Celtic Lines Songs | 1. | Captain O'Kane / La Bruja |

Jeanette Palmer's devilishlycharming debut cd, swimfish, demonstrates she's aguitar-strumming Scheherazade, ready to show you thebeautiful surface and the scary underbelly. Eachtrack presents a complete story and aesthetic. Whether it's a sardonic look at her hometown in "FromCamarillo", or the wiseass "Love or Hunger", Palmer'slovely voice moves fluidly between innocence andexperience, both earnest and snide. You are sure tofind yourself a new theme song in the almostRamones-esque "I Want a Pill" with sly lyrics andgleeful Violent Femmes kind of sing-a-longability. Shades of Tom Waits and even The Cure thread their way through the atmospheric and triumphant echoes of"Storm's Comin'", showing this chick with guitar'stheatrical range. If Palmer's "Looking for Trouble"were in the ring with Sheryl Crowe's "All I WannaDo...", Palmer's quizzical discontent would K.O. | | Tom Ball 18 Pieces For Solo Steel String Guitar CD (2003)
Along Celtic Lines music CDs
$12.15 Nearly twenty years ago Tom Ball recorded a critically acclaimed album for Kicking Mule Records called Guitar Music, (now a CD on Fantasy. see www.cdbaby.com/cd/tomball2/from/havaball .) The liner notes for that album started off with a quote from Kicking Mule, and although the words were written in 1987 they're still fairly accurate today. This is what the record company had to say back then:"Although he is perhaps better known as the singing/harmonica-playing half of the blues and ragtime partnership he has with Kenny Sultan, Tom Ball is also a steel-string guitarist of no small import; a picker whose interests and tastes cut headlong through dozens of musical cultures and several centuries."Well, not much has changed in the ensuing years, except maybe his hairline. Tom still plays gigs with his pal Kenny Sultan (they have eight duo albums -- for the latest release, see cdbaby.com/cd/ballsultan2/from/havaball ) and he still does once-a-set guitar solos in concert -- but more often on his couch.Fifteen-plus years may seem a rather lengthy wait for a sophomore guitar effort, but the time was hardly wasted. In pursuit of his other musical interests (vocals and harmonica,) Ball played on 170 CDs, wrote five music books and a novel ("The Marty Graw Book" -- see www.booklocker.com/books/1023.html ) But in the back of his mind he was always formulating another guitar project, and this recording confirms that sometimes good things do come to those who wait. On 18 Pieces for Solo Steel String Guitar, Tom brings his fingerstyle approach to a vast array of styles and compositions from eleven different nations: Paraguay, Cuba, Ireland, the Bahamas, Brazil, Germany, France, Mexico, Nigeria, Spain, and the USA. The music was written 500 years ago and as recently as last year.In addition to the varied material, another standout aspect of this recording is the use of a steel stringed instrument -- in this case a vintage 1936 Gibson. While other players have recorded pieces by Brouwer, Ponce, Barrios, etc., on the classical (nylon string) guitar, to our knowledge no one has done so before on steel strings. The result is an ultra-warm resonance, with an unusual clarity of attack and an ...
