| | Minutes to Burn As Of Now... CD Minutes to Burn Discography of CDs
In an age of sifting through pretense for something real even the most basic relevance is subject to artistic scrutiny. Minutes to Burn is like the jean jacket you've had since middle school and still wear. It's comforting to own something that exists apart from the unsteady foundation of the current trend. This is not to say that the music is benign, in fact it is the furthest thing from it.It's an average day by all accounts in Austin, Texas where two men pick up The Austin Chronicle and peruse the musician referral ads. Todd Kegley , guitar and vocals, is united with Jeremy Reynolds, drums. Minutes to Burn is conceived. Through their mingled interests and influence, they combine to form an indie force to be reckoned with. Their musical compatibility is evidenced on such brilliant tracks as "message", my personal favorite, "static", "poison everything", "fictional", and many more. They are currently unsigned, but plan to produce and release their first full length LP very soon. Minutes to Burn was selected by the 2004 Austin punk rock compilation for inclusion in it's multimedia portion. The band also held the .2 position on the indie charts at soundclick.com for, "message" and "static". Since we all feel the need to compare bands, I guess it's a means of sifting for career listeners, I'll throw out a few names, you can file Minutes to Burn with, Modest Mouse, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Cursive, while other comparisons have been made I feel these three are the most easily heard under and through the music. Wanna know more about these guys???? Check out all their message boards and you'll soon learn they are committed rockers who break only to showcase their nerdesque hip hop humor..., but I got the memo, so here it goes for the rest of you.., eh eh ehhmmm, nerd is the new cool, white is the new black, up is the new down. Adjust as necessary..., but don't forget to keep checking back, you'll want the album. As Of Now... album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a ...

As Of Now... CD music
$11.17 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; ...
| | Avett Brothers I And Love And You CD (2009)
As Of Now... music CDs
$11.25 North Carolina sibling duo the Avett Brothers return in 2009, fresh off a few years of building a cult following for its melodic and rootsy alt-bluegrass sound, with the subdued I AND LOVE AND YOU. The opening single and title track basks in piano-pop splendor in an odd mix of Beach Boys, Byrds, and the Band.
The Avett Brothers continue charting the same musical course as EMOTIONALISM and MIGNONETTE on major-label debut I AND LOVE AND YOU, despite the presence of hands-on producer Rick Ruben. The country-folk duo continue to add elements of pop and hillbilly ...

| | Ajna Music Metrospiritual, Vol. 1 CD (2005)
As Of Now... music CDs
$17.69 This excellent compilation is a great starting point for those just looking into the world of New Age fusion music. AJNA MUSIC METROSPIRITUAL VOL. 1 collects work from some of the best artists working in the genre. Music from electronica-influenced artist Donna de Lory, the Indian-Americana hybrids of Sada Sat Kaur, and the jazz/gospel/rock-influenced kirtan of Dave Stringer take up a good portion of the collection. All of these artists use Sanskrit mantras and Indian scalar patterns, yet their music sounds utterly contemporary, innovative, and progressive.
The tracks by these artists alone are worth the price of the CD, but with the addition of cuts by armchair electronica provocateur Laurel, and the rhythmic, melodic, trans-cultural melting pot of Tom Rossi, makes AJNA MUSIC a real treasure. The "metrospiritual" appellation in the title is apt: this music is clearly devotional, evoking sonic landscapes almost hymn-like in their power and sweep, yet also au currant, keeping with the cutting edge sounds and sensibilities of our modern cities. This is great as an introduction to these fine artists, and stands up as a mesmerizing listen on its own.
